Yeah, That's why I'm going to pull the flywheel. I want to see exactly where it's coming from. This thing was run on a SIM tester and supposedly checked for leaks.

Be sure to take pics of the leak(s) that you find. Sometimes indespensable in convencing folks to pay what they should for work not done right.

Tranny out, flywheel off. Found the leak Are you ready?
See the two casting circles in the pocket to the right of the crank? See the two little pin holes in the upper circle?

Cleaned out with a wire ball brush on the drill. hosed out with carb cleaner, blown out with air, scrubbed with a scotchbrite, blown out again, and scrubbed out with alcohol.

    JB welded in place.

After the JB is set, I'll go around it with some "Right Stuff" RTV.

why not weld or braze it? Not opposed to JB weld as I've seen it used to patch cracks in water jackets.

Just wondering. Glad it wasn't something worse.

Interesting. I would have sealed it with JB Weld too.

THE question: How could the builder have missed that?

I don't know. I'm wondering if the casting was porous from the start, and blasting/ boiling the block did it in. I guess it could have leaked a little from day one, but I doubt it. It didn't leak below about 1500 RPM,so maybe that's why they didn't see it on the SIM machine.. It's all together, just haven't started it yet.

I went through my warranty papers...They'll pay $50 an hour, not 15..

So far, so good. I only got 20 miles on it today though. I feel much better knowing it's not from an oil gallery.

The upper mounting hole on the alternator was stripped, so I put a heli-coil in it. In doing that, I ended up taking the alternator apart to check/ lube the bearings. I scrubbed the case halves to paint them because the old black paint was a bit dingy. For whatever reason I painted it red, and now it kinda makes the engine look like some sort of Fisher Price toy.
I should have stuck with black..

Wow! Does that ever look nice! I bought my '67' new, but I sure haven't kept it looking nice. I'm ashamed, but not ashamed enough to really clean it up and make it look nice.

    Patrick,
