I saw that and wished I were closer....I woulda probably put in a ~$350 dollar bid with 15 seconds left. Too good of a deal to lose by a few bucks in a bidding war. The other persons max was prolly like $225 ;) Sorry, not trying to add insult to injury, but I always bid my absolute max in the last few seconds and hope it doesn't get up to or over it.

He stole it for $212. That's a shame that you didn't win it...

I know, I know, I should have bid higher to begin with. I gladly would have paid $350+. I decided that when I got my rear seat for the CJ2A and I did get it after 2 years of bidding on them. They go for crazy amounts also toward the end. I was watching some front seats that are near perfect but they just crossed $200 a little while ago...ouch

Heh...I half-looked at bidding on that one myself. I'm looking for a deal on one to build a dedicated camping trailer out of.

Mike, if you are interested I have a Spen axle w/ 6 bolt hubs. I also have early Chebby rims for it and springs. The Spen was a 3/4 ton trailer unlike Bantam and the bolt pattern could be ordered so it would match your car or truck.
I actually think that Spen made the Bantam bodies. My buddy just bought Spen serial number 140 and it has the same two bar rear tub reinforcement and the serial number tag reads Henry Spen Co Inc manufacturer and designers of commercial military trailers and bodies.

"One" = a Jeep trailer of any flavor, not specifically a SPEN.

But you're farther away than I want to go - otherwise I'd have picked up your $300 M416.

Say afella buys a trailer with no ID tag left on it anywhere. How could this fella distinguish a Bantam from a Spen?

Believe me the buyer and myself know the difference, but the seller did not from our conversation prior to the last day. I was dumb enough to not put a serious enough bid on it and let it be stollen for that price. Spens are not to common!

That Ad page of Marsky's, and his actual Spen Trailers posted on his web site were the only data I could find prior to bidding. So that is why I assumed they are not that common...or rare.

The Spen trailers were the only Willys utility trailer listed in the Willys approved accessory catalog. The tailgates are 3/4 the height of the Bantam and they have smooth floors unlike the Bantams. The fenders don't have a rolled edge just a small bead. The wheels have clips for hubcaps and they are rated 3/4 ton. The tailgate hinge is vastly superior to the Bantam but I still have no idea what the taillight looks like.

My new-to-me Spen trailer has ribbed floors. I've heard a few people say that they are flat steel..... maybe mine is the exception to the rule? It has rusted through the front edges of the floor, and I'd hate to decrease its value by bubba-ing it!

Mine has a bracket for a taillight on the driver's (left) side, but no evidence that there was ever a taillight there.
