I recently acquired this from a great guy in Valley View, TX.

I began the process of cleaning over the weekend. I trashed the rotten top saving all the metal parts, doors and bows. I took the PO's wheels off and put on my stock rims and tires. I threw out the seats which were from some car. The driver side seat frame was cut up to adapt to the car seat and not usable. The passenger frame was salvagable and shown in the interior photo. Everything appears to be pretty solid but needs a fuel tank and rewiring under the dash.

The PO said the V-6 was rebuilt before he bought it. It runs very well and does not smoke. The radiator leaks.

    [IMG][IMG]

While cleaning it up I saw RANCHO and a part # stenciled on the top of one of the springs. I cleaned up the others and they are replacement also. I looked up the part number in a catalog and figured out they are 2.5" lift. There are also 4 Rancho 5000 shocks on the corners.

I painted the bumpers and installed tail lights to keep the HOA at bay. (Well maybe...)

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

It came with V-6 emblems that had been painted over when the camo paint job was done. Before I jack them up does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove that paint without removing the factory paint? Or am I just hoping for the impossible?[IMG][IMG]

Removed the dash and heater today. There are many accessories that have been added and removed over time but the wiring is in VERY good shape. There are a couple of shiners going to the fuel sending unit and to the voltage regulator. The battery cables are toast so those will go as well.

The battery is charging and I am going to do some research. More work on Saturday.

I have accomplished a few things. Radiator cleaned up, flushed and repaired, new water pump and wiring repaired & loomed. New wiring to the tail lights, battery cables and horn. New water pump, oil and temperature sending units. Changed over to a 3 wire GM alternator.

Should have under dash wiring complete in a week or so. Hope to post more then.

Looks like a really clean job you are doing! Nice work. How quickly does that tiny air cleaner get dirty?

Thanks. I just bought the Jeep and have not driven it yet. It's not dusty here so the air filter shouldn't be too bad. It will do real well for awhile since I don't have a fuel tank....:D

Nice, how is the fit behind the dash? How are you going to secure it to the dash? I'll have to hit the buffet line more often I guess...

It took a little persuasion on one corner but it fits nice. Some screws on each side will be there tomorrow.

Hey Mike, was that your CJ6 parked out near the chicken plant (Tyson on 431 in Albertville) with a half cab top on it last Friday afternoon? Just wondering, I was down your way installing an auto lift last Friday and caught glimps of one on my way back to Huntsville around 3:30pm.

Ah, ain't no bling like hidden bling, just polish those up a bit.

I was more than half hoping to see you develop the sneeze windows from the buffet line into a venting windshield.....

I have been working on the windshield to get it back in shape. I set it here for inspiration. Hope to install the wipers and stand offs soon.

My RF fender was a mess, wrecked at least twice, big cracks everywhere and messed up bondo. I decided I could fix it and beat and beat and then decided it was not going to get where I wanted it to be.

So I visited my good friend John in Duncanville. He had a decent Dispatcher 100 fender. Picked it up and removed miscellaneous attachments and light guard. DJ5x and early CJ fenders are physically the same on the outside. The differences are:

No snorkel depression on the DJ fender.
    Shock cutout is slightly different.
Inside rear of the fender is slightly different in shape.
The CJ fender has an indent for what I believe would be the older frame mounted battery.

The top of the fender has holes for the signal/marker light and guard on top as well as threaded holes for the side reflector. The indent is there similar to CJ fenders with the side marker lights but no hole for the bulb. The holes for the latch are the same on both fenders.

Here is a comparison after I notched the Dispatcher fender out for the CJ shock mount.

And here is the test fit with a couple of bolts. All the mounting holes line up. So now on to refinishing.

ONE OTHER THING ABOUT THE DJ FENDER. It had 4 coats of primer and four coats of white paint on it (gray/white/gray/white/gray/white/gray/white). I ended up taking it down to the metal so the new paint would not pop off.

A little more progress after waiting out the cold weather. Cleaned and sanded the floor. The floor is pretty solid so it was not a great deal of work.

Sanded and primed the tailgate. Don't know if this is a good fix but the way the metal wraps around the bottom left a slight gap across where rust seems to grow. I cleaned that up and then put body seam sealer in the crack. Then I drilled holes in the bottom of the tailgate so it would have the ability to not hold water. We will see how that goes.
