either your not getting brake fluid pressure to the switch or the switch is bad......have had both scenarios happen to me

just thinking out loud......if you didn't bench bleed the master before install you may have air in your brake lines.......you could have a "new" switch that is bad, I had that happen with a unit I got from Napa
if you have power in to one side....the pressure activates a switch to allow power out to the lights.......that's why I say it's either lack of pressure or bad switch

ps, maybe others will chime in if I'm missing something :)

No your not missing anything bkd. It's either air in the master or defective switch.

If the brakes work well with no mushy pedal then I would expect that the pressure is sufficient to activate the switch. I work as an agg mechanic and our machines use a lot of switches for lights, sensors, etc. It's not uncommon to get a new bad switch. I haven't worked on my brake light switches on my cj-5 yet. Can you bench test those switches and ohm it out to see if the switch is bad?

i figure you should be able to put air pressure to the switch off the jeep and see if it closes the connection. kind of a pain to rig up a hose that will slip over the switch and then over the air nozzle but youll know then.

When you have the switch off check the the threaded hole goes all the way into the master cylinder.

Had one that was not drill all the way so no pressure would get to the switch.
I have less hair because of this.

A simple period at the end of sentence would help.
It would not be like working a puzzle.
Probaly a faulty brake light switch..:)

I just had one where I had power to the switch and when I pressed the brakes it lit the test light but it wouldn't light the brake lights but if I jumped the switch they would light. Checked everything and scratched my head a lot on it. Over the weekend I swapped in a D-30. When I bleed the brakes the stop lights started working. I figure I had a little bubble of air in there that wasn't allowing the switch to have full contact. It would light a test light but not the stop lights. Voltage drop with a poor connection. My brakes felt fine also.
