so i searched...found in a thread that someone said the spindle nut socket is technically supposed to be 2 3/32 but 2 1/16 will work,,looked around and quadratec lists one as 2 1/8 and 4wd lists it as 2 1/16 with the same part number..need to go get one..which size should i ask for...also where can i get one without ordering...(ie napa, autozone)

    Don't shoot me... :smash:

A chisel works. Leaves the nut dinged up, but works in a pinch.

I've taken apart many spindle nuts with chisel marks. Yep, it works. It's nice to have the right socket though.

When I got my Jeep the jam nuts were perfectly round and I needed a spanner wrench to get them off. I used a chisel. The nuts setting the bearing were the standard large hex nuts. I used a 2 /16" socket. I've seen the sockets at Napa and Carquest on the shelf.

Dont forget about Snap-On, Mac, or Matco. Craftsman might even make one.

Most farm supply places have them too.
As Tim said, a chisel or junk screwdriver will work, but I've always ended up with a slice in my finger, somehow.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. The nuts were full of chisle marks. My grandfather bought the Jeep in 1959 and I don't think he ever used a wrench on them.
