after reading some of the posts here I am thinking we all talk about the big stuff but no one says much about the little things that make our rigs just a little better. Here are a couple i've found.
boxing in the frame in high stress areas.
hey that paper glove box that fell or is falling out, I found a plastic garbage can at the dollar store that was almost the perfect size with minimal trimming.
That clutch linkage problem, I found ball ends and stainless allthread in macmaster carr for under $30.00 and havent had to readjust for over a year its awesome and was the biggest peeve of mine.
Added lcd lights in the rear bumper long oval bought from a truck stop, they fit in with a rubber spacer and are waterproof and really bright
Fuse block is cheap and easy, I put mine right above the battery

warn lock out hubs, spicer axels, and a good set of hood hindges. all gave to me by a coworker that had a jeep years ago and had no need for this stuff anymore. oh yeh almost forgot some others. a late 70's chevy van seat fits right in a jeep. had that here as well, and put it to good use

    Kaiser-Wil,
What seat does your suggestion replace? Drivers, Pass, or a rear seat?
I'm about ready to start looking, so I do appreciate the suggestion... I'm looking for all three locations to give some attention to.

worked best for me as a driver seat. they are almost identical in size. it could be used for a passanger seat as well, but they dont fold or tumble, so access to the tool box would be impossible. we dont plan on anybody riding in the back, it is usually full of cargo, cooler, grille, chainsaw, etc. i kept the best seat i had of the two and made it into a pass seat, just need to have it recovered now, but may opt for a new seat, havent made up my mind yet;)

    Kaiser-Wil,
Thanks for that clarification... On e-bay I saw a CJ5 with a bench seat, (it was a modified mini-van back seat)... looked pretty cool, however I do like the "open-ness" of the buckets.

i used dodge van seats in both my jeeps. They are lowback black vinal and can be found in nearly every van at the junk yard. But it can be a challenge because alot are highback or a weird color. And usually the driver seat it trashed. And they are kinda thick so you have to lower them as much as possible. But they make a good seat.
As for the free stuff. Well theres not a whole lot that you cant get for nexto nothing if your patient and you know where to look.

Vacuum assisted power master cylinder and hanging pedals from an XJ donor that cost me prolly $30.

T-18 transmission boot from a Furd pickup that cost me $5 - very flexy, allows full range of movement much better than Jeep reproduction part.

1 piece tie rod flip cost me <$100.

    Bear Creek Survey dash stickers

Summit Heater FTW! I think I paid just over $100, huge bang for the buck!

DavidT, I don't know which Trannies the original CJ's had when ordered with the Perkins diesels on the early CJ's, but I'll bet the experts on this site do. Hmmm, maybe they'd match up to my T-98??????
