Has anyone taken the time to cut their fenders and put DOM or other 3/4" or 1" tubing around edge and front... then beat/wrap metal across and 1/4 to 1/3 wrap over perimeter pipe. Then tack/MIG perimeter, etc... grind down weld and then put an angular support edge on front? I am getting ready to attempt this... due to not having any luck finding a Vendor that has an alternative to the project mod....

Poison Spyder and other Vendors.... do NOT have the CJ-5 Intermediate years in their inventory, nor have any plans to include same. Does anyone know of a good alternative?

I have seen some of the cut-up mods others have done and most look pretty bad without a support tube around the edge, etc. Would really appreciate any assistance with ideas... alternative thoughts!

I'm not positive, but I believe the intermediate fenders are the same as the later CJ fenders....'72-'75 = same fenders.

Intermediate are the same as 76 to 86 fenders.

wow I did not know that, even though I doubt I will be changing mine ever or for years to come, good to know the fenders are similar at least. Not sure when they gave up on the two piece construction, but I doubt that's desirable on some off road flat/tube fender anyway.

When adding tube fenders, its the inner part that is cut out and joined to the tube framework. So yes, the 72 to 86 CJ tube fender will be the same with the exception of the inner part you add to fit your frame (82 to 86 had tall shock towers and both sides are rounded inside where the early ones had a squared off step and different inner shape.

Just in case someone cares, the YJ fender is 2 piece as well (really 3 main parts if counting the front). Where the CJ is double thick at the rear, the YJ is double walled at the rear with a space between the two and the reinforcement on the inside. I was really impressed with the strength and quality....the are a bit two long, but with fab work, can be cut down to fit the 72 to 86 CJ.
