Man..strange to come update this thread seeing David as the last guy to respond. Gonna miss him.

Back to the water tank project today:

I went and got all the fittings so I could better estimate where to mount the pump. Once that was figured out I put some mounting screws through from the bottom, welded them into place, then ground the heads flush. Now the pump can just slip down on the studs and get secured down.

I also re-visited the ammo-box-as-pump-cover idea, this time flipping the box over and using the bottom as the pump cover. I think this will work - I’ll need to put some larger holes in the sides to accommodate the water inlets and outlets. I’ll also need to notch the top to allow the fill elbow to get mounted - but all in all for a $7 start I can work with it. Height-wise it'll end up right about the same as the rear floor - almost planned...

Note that in this pic the water tank isn’t fully into the frame - I’ve a fitting installed that’s keeping it from sliding in place. Once mounted there will be about 1” between the tank and pump cover.

Probably a dumb question not knowing the size of the tank, could you have cut the bottom out of an old fuel tank and set it down over the top of the tank and pump? Then run the fill/pressure lines up the filler neck and still used the gas cap.

Nope. Shape is wrong, and I had to mod the fuel filler inlet in the body in order to get the rollcage lifted out. Good idea though - that'd be stealthy.

    OK -

Here's where I'm at. There are so many constraints with this setup I'm amazed it's still coming together. I've cut holes in the ammo can to accommodate the water connection to the tank and the outlet. Today I did the notch to accommodate the water fill elbow.

But - it all eventually goes together and looks like it'll work. I'll mount a switch and light on the front of the ammo can for turning on the water pump.

You guys see any issue with painting the tank itself black? I'd just like it to not be so visible under the seat.

Dang, Mike, looks great! Not to make more work for you, but how 'bout a simple sheet metal cover that would slip over the whole package to sort of make it monolithic and blend in like a factory tank would've? Even one step furher, mount the skin of a gas cap to the filler neck on the outside.

With a black tank you might get warm water...But then the fuel does not fair too badly in a black tank.

Well - mainly because my sheet metal skills aren't up to that task, and it's a really odd space to try and fit anything more into. Although I could probably just have used the rollcage as a base and put sheet metal around it (rather than under it), but that would make all this work on the pump enclosure a waste..;)

I really don't want to make it look like a gas tank in anyway - I'd hate to have someone "help out" by filling it up inadvertently...

On the black tank and water temp - I guess I figure that'd be nice most of the time as the water will probably get used more for cleaning things than drinking.

Oh - forgot I also want to be able to see the water level in the tank. Even if I paint it I'll tape off a vertical stripe so I can see the level.

Mike one of the problems you may run into is algae over time....in the nursery business we paint any clear liquid tanks black to deflect sunlight thus less algae....don't think it's gonna make much diff in water temp....you probably wanna plan a schedule of cleaning w/ a solution that includes bleach (food grade) to keep the tank clean
    Looking good!

Thanks Jim - didn't know about the black paint lessening the chance for algea.

The RV store has some treatments for keeping the tank sanitary as well.

    Sheeshe...slipped to page 6 even...

After 3 months of doing nothing I finally got back in the garage tonight.

Attached shows the fruit of tonights efforts - but I have to give Steve Lane a chance to guess first as it's all his fault...

Isn't mounted yet - rivets didn't want to pound out of the frame. Looks like it'll bolt up with one extra hole to drill though.
