Have you replaced them since you were trying to start it?

Great advice! and it is what I did, family came home and I took the evning off, now I am back at it with some mild success!

Funny you should ask - the J8C plugs were just replaced for the second time, the first replacment set all came out wet!. Also, a new rotor, rechecked all the valve tolerances, dist. cap will be in tomorrow as it was not in stock.

turned her over and she caught enough for the starter to disingage and spin free :)

best catch ever yet, and I as able to do it twice. Now I will run the fuel line into a small container and let the fuel pump supply the gas to the carb in hopes I can get an idel, but I want to put the front clip on and hook up the radiator. Also need to put the valve cover back on.

frustrating - but I'm getting somewhere

she did catch enough to force oil up through the rocker rails and oil is now dripping from the top end onto the valves

man I cant tell you how much having someone there in support means, - this really isn't that difficult but boy it can get awfuly frustrating on your own

    Thank you folks

Never seen the PVC under the carb, would like to see the side cover setup. That big hole will make you a little lean IMO.

initially ws using a bolt sticking through the fire wall to plug the hose - looking for a more positive temporary seal, I went to man's best friend (no I didn't shove a dog into the tube)

    DUCT TAPE !R)

couple wraps round and over the PVC valve and the port which once led to the wipers

I can get her to catch pretty good at will now so my next step is to achieve IDEL

need to hook up a temp fuel supply. Spent the afternoon making wooden jigs to duplicate a steel fuel line from the pump to the carb, traveling around the front of the engine under the water pump and under the oil filter, then up to the carb. Saw this on the spare 134 F head I just picked up but wanted fresh tubing - about 10,000 times the work of using a rubber hose but a good friend of mine recomended as little ruber as possible near the engine and I do trust him.

I suspect with my limited knowledge about Carbs, that I screwed the pooch on the overhaul kit with the YF carb and having read one thing after another about the dificulties with the single barrel YF model, I need to examine my options there

129 bucks for a Solex is not currently in the budget till the snow flies - will spend it if I must, but the motor is catching at will now, just no idel and that I suspect is definatly fuel supply related

Remove the whole mess and put a .59 pipe plug in with teflon tape.

:iagree: A decent vacuum leak will cause a poor/nonexistant idle condition..

    (looking around stubing toe....):toetap:

    mmmmm - ok - I won't tell YOU..

    but everyone else knows I did :? R)R)R) - I'm an idiot

will do in the am - home with my feet up at the moment - I know for a fact that my first go at the carb was a mess, was being so careful then all of a suden, these little balls showed up, bouncing across my desk - however, there is an untouched, YF carb sitting on the spare 134 F head

hmmmm - I also have a buddies bone yard with half a dozzen complete but bad frame Cj 7's (all with straight 6's)... probably nothing there that would fit thou

    this placed it the best!

soooo... since I have a "Mulligan" on the carb screwup, what should I do to the untouched YF? - just bolt it on and pray hard - or should I at least open it up and check it for crud? - having learned the secrect that it has "little balls" and to be careful cause they can bounce around and mess things up - ha ha ha - I'm loosin it ... ha ha ha

Anybody ever put a Rochester one jet on an F? Thought about it when I had mine, as the vacation home had a new one still in the box when I bought the house.

    :)
if anyone could make it fit, I could - just a simple matter of making a foam model of an adapter then casting it out of aluminum if needed and a couple gaskets after passing over it with the milling machine. - will note ya have one and make ya an offer if I go that route, ah heck pm me on affer an I might take ya up on it as buddies round here are alway gettin into different stuff and I have loads of cabinet space :)

I have no idea if it is a direct bolt on thou

bed time - till the am

    to be continued...
