adding installing an new OD on an old tranny?

i have a warn overdrive i would like to put on my jeep. first off, no you cant have it!!

my tranny is an old t-14, i get a little bit of brass every time i change the oil, i am running a magnetic drainplug to grab any big peices of metal that may come off. would it be a bad idea to put my Overdrive behind this tranny? will the little bits of brass screw up my overdrive?

im eventually putting a sm465 in it and and rebuilding a d18, should i just wait until i have the new drivetrain all set up?

Well the OD actually fits in the Xfer. That being said, the OD does use the output shaft of the trans and if the output shaft is loose, it could cause problems with the OD.

I would also be very careful with at OD and the output gear. IIRC that would be a 10 spline, hard to find and expensive.

Herm's page shows the 6 and 10 spline the same price. the only difference is the barrel gear, but the splined part is interchangeable.

I recall herm charging me around $100 (+s/h) to switch my barrel gear TO 10 spline from 6.


the 10 spline are in less demend since they ONLY fit the t14, the 6 fits about 7-8 transmissions.


oh, the brass won't hurt anything, it's soft. that's why the sycro's are brass not iron.
