Good condition for its age. Plan to do a light restoration in the fall. Pics and questions (lots!) to follow.

    i bought a 75 back in Jan.

i think its mostly original.....but it may have a small lift of some sort to clear the 31's on it.

-i'm going to keep the 304...though im replacing it with one that actually runs.
-add a ford T18 instead of the t-15 3 speed
    -keep the d20
    -keep the axles.
-maybe lock the rear (i want an OX locker bad)
-Box the frame....the frame has already been welded on and is pretty damaged where the front bumper goes, so I'm not going to feel too bad about boxing it.
-i have a set of 33's...so i'll use those..and whatever lift i need to clear them.

i have a full steel top which I'm going to restore and use occasionally, but not on the trail.

right now its still sitting with no floors and rockers.....i should ideally be able to get the welder i want in a month or two....so i'll do some practicing, then i'll weld on the new body parts.

so much to do....so little space, time, and money.

Hello everyone out there! I just purchased a CJ6 off of Craigs list in George town TX. I know nothing about the Jeep except that the person I got it from had it 6 years. It looks to be perty stock and had a Koenig half top on it. There is a LOT of rust every where and i will eventualy have to replace the whole tub! For right now, I'm just going to replace the entire front floor area and get it on the road. The engine runs good. I have the F-134 engine. Thats all I know because I looked on the frame and the only "vin" i could find was very, very short. It is 25965. Can someone tell me more/ I looked on the forum but there are no letters in this vin. Am I missing something?

Well hello to everyone and I live in Cedar Park TX. Just north of Austin

That's the serial number, you're not missing anything. Should be a tag on the body/firewall with the prefix and then that number you listed.

I looked on that sticky about vin's. How do I get all that information about the build number, engine, axels, options, year from that small number?

Sorry for being so stupid but, I here to learn!

    Thanks!

The earlier ones, such as yours don't tell that in the prefix.

So, is it safe to say that it is a 1963 year model? The title says its a 1964 but it was advertised as a 1963?

    Thanks for all your help!!!!

Here are the promised pics of the "new" 6. I've really enjoyed her so far. Not much rust to speak of, she definitely is not a native of New England! I think it rides a little smoother than cj5's, (extra length?) and the T98 is amazing! In low range she climbs steep grades while idling. After reading about how super 4 speed swaps are and having first hand experience with one, I believe they live up to the hype. Anyways, enjoy the pics. [IMG]

The jeep came with this aftermarket heater. It works great so I plan on running a duct to the defroster and totally removing the placebo stock heater.

I've never seen this AMC tag on earlys before. Was it only on '70's and '71's?

Sweet rig! You are most likely right about it not being from new england. R) About the AMC logo......Here is my theory: It is from a newer Jeep and not a JEEP like your tub says. I could be wrong but maybe not. She is in really good shape. Keep us posted if you do anything more to her.

It could be a late 70 or a 71, it has the side fender markers, rear gas filler.
My 70 CJ6 built late 69 has no side markers, has hood reflectors, side fill gas tank under seat.

Do you have a serial #

I would expect that AMC started applying the logo as soon as they took over production, ie 1970. I've no evidence of that though - other than a pic of your Jeep!

    Andrew: Serial is 840501540516.

Glenn: I'm not sure if mine was the one you guys were talking about. I searched for the tread but couldn't find it.

I've found other AMC markings under the hood on the emission stickers. I can't believe they've survived all these years.

It must be the one. The thread would have been pruned before now. Same year, color, powertrain, front and rear seats. Maybe someone else will read this and remember who originally posted about it. Definitely a nice JEEP!

Something that old has emissions stickers? I thought emissions stuff arived in 1975.....I probably am off on this too but oh well. That is amazing the stickers are still there. I have nothing under the hood on my CJ5. Do you plan on just some body work, enigine tune up and other stuff or what? I am trying to get the farmer in town to part with his CJ6 but he is very protective with his stuff. I am not sure of the year or specs but I want it. 6's were always cool, but I have problems finding them in the western part of New England. Maybe I am not looking hard enough. :? How many miles do you have anyway? Are you going to keep stock height or lift it eventually? Cool rig again.

1971 CJ5 :v6: w/HEI not yet on the road, but it does go offroad:twisted:

Nope those tags were original to the early Jeeps shortly after AMC took them over. I still have mine on there and it still has some of the color left.
The emission tags were on all the jeeps that had a smog pump.

I stand corrected. Thank you now I know.:) I don't think my jeep has a smog pump. When did they get these pumps. I will have to look at my motor #'s and figure it out. I have a hodge podge of years on my jeep so you have to excuse me.

Mine had the smog pump installed when I took delivery. It was missing the drive belt and most of its plumbing, so I completed the removal process! I did a little research on the 6's VIN number and found the prefix which denotes it as a smog F134. (www.cj-jeep.com/cj5-6/cj5-6_parts_and_accessories.htm )

The jeep is is in good shape and shows 6435 miles on the odometer (Accurate? Who knows!?!) The steering and brakes function extremely well as do all of the electrical systems. The drivetrain as no dripping leaks, just the normal Jeep "wetness" and the engine is strong and burns no oil. The only big flaw that I can see is that the floor is soft in 3 spots and she needs a decent paint job.

My plan is to pull the tub, fix the floor, paint the frame and axles and inspect the rest of the jeep. After that and some paint, (thinking Baja Yellow at the moment) I would like to put in a cage, recover the seats, and perhaps a very mild lift (1"-2.5")
I don't want to do anything too wild, I'm a fan of the stock, sleeper look.
I'll be sure to keep taking pictures!:)

Add one more to the count. I have an all original CJ6 that I thought was a ’66 but after looking at the site JMAZ posted (www.cj-jeep.com/cj5-6/cj5-6_parts_and_accessories.htm) I think it might be a ’61. The VIN is 57748 20932, paint code 177 trim 162. The engine looks like it was painted orange, T-90-A-1 transmission.

This past weekend I started to disassemble it. Plans are to take it down to the frame and have it sand blasted and powder coated, put in a new floor, and rebuild the engine, tranny, and axles.

Due to some space constraints, it's looking like I should start thinking about sell off the 64. If anyone is interested I should be able to come through with some pictures in a couple of weeks.
BTW it is currently located in Jackson County (Michigan).
