I cobbled together a bracket for the overdrive and single stick transfer case. There wasn't much room for the linkage pieces for the transfer case
and I needed a pretty straight shot for the overdrive. Came out pretty well.

Next I modified an already modified link I had in my overdrive box. The back half is stock, the front is 1/2" bar stock bent to get around and line up.
This is the triple stick boot I got from Wild Horses. (Someone else sells these, but for quite a bit more and doesn't take online payment). Wild Horses is local to CA, and has a lot of stuff applicable to jeeps even thought they are a Bronco shop. I started thinking about how to make my cover adapt to this.
High tech! Blue tape and a beer box.
Bent some 16 gauge and started piecing it in.
Added a flange on top to accept the boot cover. Welded it up. Getting closer.

Next you can put a sticker on the dash for what the shifters are all for. Be like taping the combination to your gun safe on the door!

Had a little sunshine, so I painted the sticks and linkage.
    Also the cover got paint.
Trying this nutsert tool from Smittybilt. I will use 1/4-20 nutserts around the trans cover and the top rubber retainer. It works pretty well, and keeps me from resorting to self drilling screws.
This is pretty cool, I can use this for all kinds of stuff.
All installed, this took just a few minutes.
I might paint the stainless boot retainer, not sure if it looks right on this jeep. I really like this boot. I am hoping to test drive this weekend, then finish the PTO and winch driveline.

I bought one of those last year, works great and makes for some easy projects. I did the same to my tranny cover this winter when I put it back together.

I am finally ready to add the PTO adapter and PTO. I also have the new hole cut for the PTO shifter.
I have this vintage original Warn manual that I refer to, this time for the PTO adapter.
It shows the adapter and rear gear, and torque values.
Adapter on, output gear and nut on, torqued to 125 ft-lbs.
PTO on, it is now closer to the anti-wrap bar after moving back 7". I will need to flex it to check clearance, but the ramp is still buried.

Removed the front PTO shaft, (there is a pillow block and ujoint at the motor mount). Cleaned, lubed, painted. I should get the new 48" rear shaft today. Mcmaster had the perfect shaft with keyways, but no, out of stock. So I have unkeyed shaft coming and will have to machine it.
Since I'm waiting, I installed the driveshafts, and backed it out for the first time since January.
Before I went any further, I put the trans in 4th, transfer in neutral, OD in over, and ran it for 15 minutes to get oil up into the OD, and everywhere else. I plan to run this on a good hot drive soon, then dump the oil and refill. Just to get all the crud from new gears, old overdrive, etc out. Then I took it for a drive. First, low range, and let me just say, wow. It's a new jeep. I realize I won't use 119:1 very often, but it will be nice when I want it. (I think I'll be relegated to the back of the pack on the ECJ5 run.) Next, tried high range and split gears, all works good. I am excited to get it out on the highway. Then, I wanted to flex it to check the PTO clearance, all I had was the engine hoist, so I went as high as I could. It misses the anti-wrap bar by an inch or so. I need a better flex test, to see if I need to modify.

I have seen various size keyed shafts at bearing supply houses.

Received the long shaft, made a quick trip to Carson City to use my brothers Bridgeport, he cut keys in this shaft as well as one for the Tux. (Back story) - the front shaft on the Tux disappeared while we were at the Hammers in Feb. Hmm, don't know what happened, but I need to replace it with the former-now-too-short-shaft from Woody, cut down and re-keyed.
New keyway, new key, lubed up, ready to go.
A look at the PTO end, installed in a few minutes after work.
The look forward. Pillow block on the motor mount, then the turn to the winch, avoiding fuel lines, hydro steering lines, etc. I ran it to see everything turn, but will take it up to Twin Peaks and stress the winch in preparation for this summer's festivities.

With the launch sequence started for the Rubicon, time for little button-up projects on my list. I cut out a little patch for the old PTO hole, gave it a coat of weld-through primer, welded it in.
A quick coat of paint, yes the rest of the area is getting kind of seasoned, but it's painted.
Next, the column bearing is very loose, and it was driving me nuts. I fitted up my home made steering wheel pulling plate to a puller.
Put an impact to it, popped right off. You can see the remnants of some anti-seize from the last time it was off. This really helps getting it off in the future.
Unbolted the column tube from the floor and slid it off from inside. Knocked the old bearing out of the top end, yeah, it's dust. I found 3 ball bearings.

I really like the anti-seize idea. Filing that away in my head to hopefully remember when I need it.

All of a sudden, really busy at work, now that the snow has mostly melted. Glad I did so much over the winter. I got this upper column bearing at the Plymouth swap meet from a Joe's Motor Pool dealer. Promised to be better than Crown, and definitely seems beefier.
Gotta love it when you put an MB/GPW part on your CJ.
My column has a bearing below the floor, that's sandwiched with the column flange though the floor, so it's really not a 1-man job to get it back together. But I did, a few deep breaths and curses later.
The new bearing is in, and final assembly is done. Ahhh-no more slop. We will see how the JMP part does with a rigorous Rubicon test.

All jobs require excessive cursing. It does not matter where or when, irritating, difficult jobs or not, only that you do it enough. My customers and coworkers pretend to enjoy all the expletives, especially the made up ones that eject from my mouth... Carry on.

Very surprised that since you went to the "dark side" with this build, you haven't put in a tilt wheel yet. Maybe if you put on a couple more pounds it will happen. :D
