It looks like a great design and fab.
You should hang a goalie mask on the chain saw, that will keep people from messing with your stuff.

I like the look of a spare tire on the back of a Jeep, almost like it balances the front out.
    Great work as always!

I took my daughter to soccer practice the other night with the tire carrier on.

I LOVE how the extra weight has completely transformed the ride. It's exactly what the stiff rear suspension needs. Every bump that would jar my spine before was smoothed out. The last jeep-like aspect of the ride was ironed out.

But... the extra weight tips the scales just enough to make the engine's power inadequate. It turned every hill into a chore that had to be planned for in a lower gear and at 4k+ rpm.

I came home and took it off.

I’m still not ready to commit to a turbo, but to run the carrier full time, it might be necessary. It’ll be perfectly fine to use as planned; throw it on for weekend trips, and leave it off for general use.

The Pull and Save near ITLKSEZ literally has a 5ft by 5ft bin of turbos you walk by heading out to the yard. Grab and go. Any size you need.

Maybe I missed it, but how much do you think the carrier weighs?

That’s a good question. I’ll break out the scale when I get time.

    Carrier is 90#
    Saw is 15#
    Spare is 62#

So 167# total. It doesn’t sound like much, but it just crests that tipping point of torque happiness. It’s the same feeling as when it’s loaded up with the whole family. Just not as zippy.

With all the added weight, do you plan on reinforce the rear axle ?

Nope, never crossed my mind. That jeep is under 3400# with the carrier and a full tank of gas. The car the axle came out of weighed 4068#, so I’m still well under what the axle was designed for. It’s a beefy unit.

Perhaps some of the feeling is wind resistance too? If you took the tire off but left the carrier on, how does that feel?

I didn’t mention that, but it was an issue. I noticed as soon as we took off, the wind patterns up around us were much different. My daughter actually mentioned it as I was thinking it.

I’ve decided to explore the turbo route. :twist:

A piece of the puzzle I picked up at the yard today…
It’s going to need massive reconfiguration.

I believe that once you get the the correct Turbo & Sensors....... It's mostly the electronics . I would suggest that you get the TSM and / or the Factory Service Bulletins for that application. It sure has helped me with mine. GodSpeed on you transformation. If any one can do this , it's you.

That’s the beauty of this. Adding this turbo to this engine requires nothing extra but making it fit, as long as I feed it premium and keep the boost relatively low. It’s been done many times before, I’m just following their lead.

So.......The 93 Octane I need to run is about $5.50 per , 'round these parts. How's about Idaho right now ????
