I snapped the face back in to see what was missing and it was the release button as expected. I was going to figure out how to put it back but now the face seems permanently attached. So I'm done worrying about it.

Maybe a 20% chance depending on how our fencing project and some other things go around here this year. It will be last minute if it happens.

Fencing you build not fencing you practice. You can see fresh posts here:

We have a few thousand feet to put in.

I know where there are probably a few hundred used T1.33 steel posts------- We have been removing fence. Even more fun than putting it in.

Yeah, we've pulled about 5000 ft of fencing that was far past its freshness date. Ugh.

I wish your posts were close. The fuel/time cost probably isn't worth it.

Dad bought me my Jeep to build fences on the farm. It could pull a trailer of posts and all the wire needed to keep a boy busy... I got lots of practice.

I also found the plow hydraulics could pull the T-posts if the ground wasn't too hard.

So far everything seems good but that's all the time I have for it tonight.

Will give it a once over and take it for a longer shakedown run tomorrow.

Good work, enjoyed following along, did you get the thermostat housing leak fixed? I may have missed it.

Just a thought on thermostat housing leaking. I have a 7.3 ford diesel with a stamped thermostat housing that I worried with leaking for weeks, tried all kinds of cleanings, gasket materials and sealers, resurfacing gasket faces, new billet housing (threw it out in the trash finally). What finally fixed the problem was I got a 4 in,x4 in. x about 1/32 thick sheet of pure rubber gasket material at the HD building supply plumbing supply department, cut my own gasket and used the old original stamped housing and no sealer at all. I went easy on the bolt torque so not to over squeeze the rubber. A year now and 15k plus miles, dot a drop!
Probably not something that would work on fuel or oil connections but for coolant works just fine.

I took the Jeep for a longer trip with the new drivetrain yesterday. It ran and drove great. All the functions of the transmission, overdrive, and transfer case work smoothly.

    But....

After getting back to the shop I noticed a puddle under the Jeep. Looking under it I saw this:

oil everywhere. It seemd to be coming from up high and in front around the vent area. Out of curiosity, I pulled the fill plug and at least a quart of oli came gushing out. I was at a bad angle to put the plug back in without readjusting the creeper so it all ended up on the floor instead of in a drain pan.

Kitty litter time. That's about 1 1/2 ft by 2 1/2 ft worth:

Somehow when filling it on the bench I way over filled it. I had it tipped sllighty to the right for a better funnel angle and would tip it back to check. I guess it's really sensitive to angle and I didn't tip it back enough.

With the proper oil level we went for a 40 minute drive today:

No issues and no puddle on the floor after today's drive.

With the factory 3.73 gears, the T18 has taken the crawl ration from 28:1 to 58:1. That's a big difference. I'm curious to get it on some trails and see if it's enough. Adding the overdrive has given me some margin to drop the axle ratios if I need more gearing. Going to 4.56 axles would bring the crawl ration to 71:1 while still having a 3.4 high gear in overdrive.

With the torquey Buick V8, I'm thinking the 3.73s might be fine. Currently the final ratio is 2.8:1 in overdrive and It happily chugs down the highway at 1800rpm and 60mph.

I really need to figure out what axle ratios I'm going to run before building the front axle. It determines if I'm buying a 3.73 and up or a 3.92 and down locker.

I think you will find 58:1 to be completely adequate if your engine will pull at idle-which it likely will. I would definitely hit some moderately difficult trails with it before deciding to regear. With the OD and 3.73's, it will just be loafing down the road at 75 mph. Just like my 3B with 4.10's and the OD. You can actually get some decent mileage out of that combo.

    I agree with Duffer.
60:1 is kind of the magic number with the torque of a dauntless V6.
58:1 with the torque of a Buick 350 is going to be better than the dauntless combination.

    Small project today.

I stuck these on magnetic backing an threw them on the Jeep:

I really want to make a custom single sticker with the overdrive in the middle, hence the magnetic backing for now.

This is what I want to make, but with the T-18 transmission pattern:

It's from a Jeep noted in the Market place listings. I can't seem to find any place online with similar stickers so I think I'll have to draw one up and get it printed.

Another idea I'm toying with is replacing the chrome air cleaner:

With a stock Buick 350 air cleaner I found on e-bay. Needs paint and some reshaping of the cowl brace, but I kind of like the stock look:
