I have a dual action fuel pump with the glass on top and vacuum ports. I plan on keeping it in my stash but am having trouble locating the correct rebuild kit so I am thinking about swapping it over to something more readily available since I don't anticipate needing the vacuum. Wipers are gone and replacements appear to be electric.

Before I make the switch I wanted to ask if anyone has information on what they would put in if they had their choice.
1958 CJ 5 F head. Engine was recently completely rebuilt and now just putting parts back together.

Without vac wipers it's a clear cut choice:
    get a Fuel only pump
    Anything but omix-ada or crown

IF you find something that isn't made in China please let us know.

Last two replacements I bought were junk that didn't last long. I have resorted to rebuilding old original pumps I had removed in the past.

Fuel pump I've got is a Carter M2846. It does have the added vacuum for the wipers.

Shows out of stock at Rockauto

Does your old pump need rebuilding?
Many times pump problems are caused by grit/rust getting into the valves, keeping one (or both) open enough to stop the action.
Can you disassemble/clean the pump and valves?

I has just been sitting for years (10 plus) so with rebuilding everything else I thought I could rebuild it. I enjoy that sort of thing if I can do it.

It is marked 4032 with a 0 digit about a quarter inch to the right.

If I can rebuild it is there any issue with just capping off the vacuum tubes with a rubber cap?

No, the vacuum side is to aid the wipers during low engine vacuum (acceleration, hills etc...). No reason you can't cap it if you don't need it.

Capping it will cause it to work against itself and shorten the life of the pump.

With it hooked up the the wipers it is, in effect, capped in stock form.

I don’t know if it helped or not, but I used to loop a piece of fuel line from one tube to the other when I capped off the wiper vacuum lines.

Hey Mark T., how did this work out for you? I've bought a rebuild kit from "Now and Then" and once I get my pump rebuilt I will no longer need the vacuum lines. Did you cap them off?

It's continually feeding itself, I can't see how it could hurt.
