I had a great time shooting the last coat of epoxy primer, well, not the last as there's more to paint. I'm kind of looking for another hood vs the funky hood that came with the Bronco. Tomorrow I'll start putting some color on~ supposed to be a nice cool day!

I have a new 3m fresh air breathing hood~ this thing was great! I piped in cool air from the clean area and it was super fun painting! I've always had the breathing system, this just made things better!

It blows my mind the progress you make Dne'! Today I looked at my hood, fenders and tailgate... then I looked at the can of epoxy primer next to it, and thought, "naaahhh, far too much work to break this down and paint it out in the driveway".

I had a good day! weather was good with a nice breeze through the garage. I hope the color on the interior of the door/metal dash goes with my parchment seats. (not purchased yet) It'll all come together;)

The color is great. As fast as you are, I feel like you will be even faster as assembly starts happening. Driving it to a car show next weekend?

Today I removed the body from the frame~ again, I have some work to do on the frame and probably will have to repaint the darned thing; have no idea of how it got so crappy looking!

I didn't like this color for the center of the grill, it was supposed to be Forest Green metallic and it was not!

I had bought some black for other things, a 2 stage, I wanted matt, but Gary insisted glossy, so glossy it is/was/are;) It's difficult to get an entire pic of a grill!

Wow, the storm passed through this morning and we were left with gorgeous sunshine and a cool breeze~ so I got busy finishing up the engine compartment, and other odds n ends. I may go ahead and get busy on the frame again~ plenty to do there;)

    two weeks?

Gee, let's see~ I started trying to repair the rusty tailgate, but it was just too far gone and I ordered a new one yesterday. I'm still waiting on a hood. A fella on the Classic Bronco forum has one~ I visited him and saw the hood, a few dents but definitely fixable and no rust. But he's terrible at getting back to me, but a super nice guy, but I need the hood. "oh, I'll just bring it by" and If I text him, it's always two days later to get a response. I don't get it, but he's a super guy!!

Next on the confusing list: I had installed the newest sbf onto the frame a while back and when installed, the engine sat crooked enough to where the headers were in the wrong place to clear the crossmember and the engine was OBVIOUSLY a little counterclockwise. The drives side mounting hole already had a crack and I'll repair it as the pics show. But I had "moved" the hole forward to adjust the engine.

The mounting hole is supposed to be center I suppose, but I had moved it to accomodate the engine to sit in its correct orientation.

So here I cut out the mount to weld in new material.

and now it's ready for a new hole to be made.

old engine and seems to be sitting correctly
    [IMG]

After I had butchered the frame engine thing, the engine sat correctly. only thing I can think is the new engine mounts are wrong? I intend to look at those today, but not ready to re-install the engine. The passenger side header has to just miss that frame.

I took the C4 transmission to be overhauled yesterday, might be back by the weekend. I did learn that it's actually a C5; a beefier c4.

*Fixing to lose electricity as the electric company is replacing poles on our street , however our generator should kick in :bananatool: so we should still have electricity

I don't know that I'd say the C5 is *beefier* than a C4 in any real way, they're almost identical. The Big upshot of a C5, and something that is an absolute positive with todays fuel prices, is that the C5 has a lockup converter, that will lock up in High Gear. Granted, it's a Bronco with a V8, so fantastic mileage isn't ever going to be in the cards, but it will help.

Not a stock transmission. Scuttlebutt has it they are a tad weaker and have issues with the lock up TQ's.
Shamelessly plagiarized from a different forum......

Run and hide from this model if made during 81 thru 85. Mostly used behind 4 & 6 cylinders in light duty applications. Some people refer to the heavier C4 used in trucks/vans as a C5 since the casting # was originally C5. The best version of this style tranny has the fill tube scewed into the right front side of pan, not in the case. The output shaft and transfer case adapter are unique to early Broncos only, but readily available as aftermarket. If an automatic is your goal, stick with what is proven over a long term. An AOD made from 1988 thru 93 are excellent candidates for conversions too. They require correct adapters to fit, and can be a near bolt in setup.

Might want to ping your application off your transmission guy to see what he says.

Meh, if she's having it gone through, the Transmission builder is going to know which parts to put in it to make it strong enough. There's nothing inherently wrong with the C5, it was just a compromise transmission to squeeze a little better mileage out of the C4, until the AOD was ready to go. I've had a number of them, and if you put the good hardened sprags and the better planetaries in them, they're fine, I don't think Dne is putting a 500HP, 7500RPM 302 in front of it.

For my purposes, the C4 or whatever it is should be fine for my purposes. It's tried and true. I've summed up in my head the expenses for the "upgrade" in better transmissions~ I do like the KISS principle, don't complicate things above my pay grade. Amazingly, there are so many people doing upgrades because they can. Even at my level of skill(if I can call it that), I still try to keep the expenses down, which is still incredibly expensive. I don't know where I was going with my thoughts~ I'm just here to have fun and learn a little bit along the way:bananatool:

Well, let's see, first thing, I raised the engine off the frame, rolled the frame outside to pressure wash it~ I'll have to re-paint most of it~ no biggy. 2nd: I bought a used set of Hedman headers in really good shape, these have the ball end, not the flange end like the ones I did have. They even seem thicker. I'll be taking them off soon enough. Thirdly: ran the new rear brake lines, but I'll be removing them to repaint the axle. Fourthly: I worked on cleaning up the transfer case, pressure washed it first; I do have some new gaskets, but no hurry on that.

Unrelated: on my '67 Mustang, I have a flex fan(factory Ford) which just seems to be noisy, but does draw a lot of air. I bought a fan clutch system which I hope will be a little quieter, but need to order some studs to mount it:(

Other than that, a nice warm spring day it t'was, perhaps tomorrow will be the same.
    dne' ;)
