The disc brake conversion from hell. Can't make up some of the pitfalls I've had. Some mine, some due to nuances, some to Chinese trash.
The completed side and the hold up on the other. Once its together I like it.
42513~2.jpeg If I had to do it again, Brennans...The nice thing about it, doesnt matter what spindle, bearings, seals etc. Rotor over the hub bypasses all the fits I had.

Back on all 4. While the 300 bathes think I'll start tinkering with the steering. Will go Saginaw box, shaft doesnt look too complicated. Stroked looking at the prices of aftermarket columns.

I’ve been looking at aftermarket columns too. Not too hateful.

Glad you’re making progress. Too cold out there for me.

This should be rather painless. Forgot I had this Commando mount. Never mind the barstock spacer, just keeping it off the shackle bolt. Once I scallop through the crossmember the box/ bracket will slide back and closer to the rail it will clear. I'll include a brace from the opposite rail. I will sleeve through the drivers rail. IMG_20220220_144754903_HDR~2.jpg IMG_20220220_144500680_HDR~2.jpg IMG_20220220_150711065_HDR~2.jpg
I'll be able to shoot the shaft just under the motor mount to the column. Double joint below the column ( around 50° there) support bearing and a single joint at the box should be good. Once the tie rods are flipped the draglink will be just about level.

Don't forget to pull that shackle bolt around before you lock in the box mount.

Hustled home on a beautiful sunny 60° day. Bored through the x member. Welded in a 3" scallop. Mocked up the box and bracket. Looks good. Bore through the frame rail for some sleeves, probably add a doubler plate this weekend. Looks like the drag link I have will work for now

Drilled and sleeved the frame horn. Added a doubler on the inside for stiffness ( somebody forgot they had bar stock spacers in there during initial mock up so the scallop in the x member ended up a little passenger ) Drag link doesnt look hateful even not flipped yet. On to sorting out the column and shaft.

Nothing noteworthy today. Filled the D30, had just enough gear oil around. Bolted on the mech. fuel pump. Moved my 200lbs of flywheel inventory back to the front frame horns to see if the Ranchos will settle. Doubt it, likely have to move the front hangars to get any shackle angle.

Reamed the knuckles, made a dom tie rod ( 2 actually, 1 is for glass flatty's banana'd one) The factory drag link was about an 1" too long for my setup. Sourced a 11/16-18 lh die with help from fellas here. Ran another inch of threads, chopped off an inch. Drag link angle isn't bad. I'd like it more tie rod parallel. I'll see how it behaves, may need to get a dropped pitman. Just need to remember where I stashed the pitman arm to to box nut for safe keeping..

Browsing Speedway columns but may see if I can make the original column work. Depends on how much stomach clearance I can get.

Nice work Rich. I think you'll like it much more if you find a dropped Pitman arm ?

Enjoying the last warm sunny days. Right off the bat the dash opening wasn't formed correctly ( should have taken the hint) Modded a factory bracket and stuffed an original column in, noted it was in my lap. Tape shows the opening/ bracket 2" low. Eff that out came the cutoff wheel. Now its better. Think I'll fill the opening and make the upper bracket out of tube (1.5" id) and fix the column with some set screws. Something similar for the floor. Lower column bushing on order and some universals. Definitely 1 support bearing, maybe 2 IMG_20221012_141203480_HDR.jpg IMG_20221012_141150932_HDR.jpg IMG_20221012_142529827_HDR.jpg IMG_20221012_152633889.jpg

Trying to get motivated here. Got the 300 scrubbed up and out of the bath. Front hubs too. Many of the gears were pitted beyond use. Was able to obtain the majority from Nick awhile back. The intermediate had 2-3 teeth I'm not crazy about the pitting on. It's soaking I'll use a bronze wheel to clean it up in a few days and assess. Intermediate gears seem unobtainium.
I have another complete 300 here but don't fancy unbolting it from the 700r4.

I need to get a picture of my lower column bracket but it's simply the original column to gearbox clamp welded to the backside of a 12ga plate. I believe that's from the AA kit instructions.
I'm appreciating my lower bushing being a tractor supply bronze bushing in a setscrew collar that is turned down. It makes the bushing a common $5 off the shelf part.

Was there ever a 700R4 that would bolt to a Dauntless?
I might could get serious about that with my cj6.

Not directly bolt-in to my knowledge but it would be adaptable with a plate.
