Sent an sos out my friend Brian who has a fabrication shop. Does mostly custom handrail and aluminum boat welding ( the Coast Guard happily pays him $3500 day rate for 8 hrs. All he takes is a suitcase Tig and angle grinder. Take note yungins, they cant find anyone to travel the east coast and do repairs. Get a skill / trade, just sayin)
I pimped while he welded. Copied my poor man sliders as on the glass flatty for the spring plates ( worked well in CO)
Brown Santa was here. I used the article Itlksez posted for the chevy 1/2 ton disc conversion. Wheelie dropped off the studded knuckles ( added bonus set up for tie rod flip) Caliper brackets from member here ( minus the NE rust and dings now) also got transmission oil lines and some bits for the cooling system.
Quarterly budget blown for now.. Goal is to get back on 4 wheels, cooling system done and get the engine fired / run in. IMG_20211212_114257290~2.jpg IMG_20211212_114307944_HDR~2.jpg IMG_20211212_114402839~2.jpg IMG_20211212_115715802~2.jpg

Put a caliper bracket and spindle on that knuckle. Check that the button head bolt is long enough for the nut.

I like the Lock Right in my D30. I've got an open carrier but it's for a D44 , series 3 ? That probably won't help you .

Lincoln locker in the meantime? for my uses that would be a good option, FWIW.

Wheelie has a diff for me, pickup Sat. Thanks buddy!
In the meantime made the lower radiator brackets, burned them in and mounted the radiator. Focus factory bottom bushings. Mounting post drilled through and retained with cotter pin. Same as glass flatty.

Need to sort out a transmission crossmember. Futzed with a factory one for a bit before throwing it aside. I need to get some square or rectangle and kitbash my own.
Clearly the d300 makes for a tight fit with the th350. I can clock it up a little more. That will move the front output away from the pan. A two piece shaft with support bearing will be a necessity. Now I'm regretting trashing all the old driveshafts I had.

That's the issue with mine . I could not figure out where to hang a carrier bearing on my rig, either. My exhaust runs down the frame rail , parallel to the shaft ? Your D44 is farther toward the passenger side than my D30 is .Tighter than frogs pussy.....and that's waterproof

Gotta watch dealing with Wheelie. Takes me into his parts emporium to show me the d27's he has. Casually laying there next to them is another axle. " Whats this ?" Oh just a drum brake 30 in 3:73. Slick as a used car dealer...
Anyway now I have this complicating my life. 1974 virgin with good looking r&p, carrier even the axle u joints tight. Initial look says my disc conversion stuff will work to boot. Spartan locker and one set of ball joints on order...

Going with the 30 is financially cheaper. The 27 would have been fine except the cracked carrier. 30 lockers are like $100 less and this axle needs very little to freshen up.
