After multiple times of Fed Ex bringing the cam and then leaving with it, I finally got it. So the weekend is looking up.

I have used the POR Buick green engine enamel for several motors, it holds up well, and is pretty darn close to the original color. It held up so well, the block and heads don't really need a new coat, but I am ditching the 4 barrel manifold, and going back to a 2 barrel, so I have to get a coat on the intake.

This stuff is so easy, and I normally spray it, but for this little job I brushed it on.
I put it in at the unauthorized drying station for the night.

Saturday morning, streaming the KOH race, and time to move on with the little V6. Break in lube on the cam and in she goes.
Lube and drop in the lifters, push rods. Install the rockers, and torque.
On the left, the badly worn fuel pump eccentric, replaced with a TA Performance unit I got from Partsdude.
At TDC, spun the cam around until the timing marks point at each other, slid on the Cloyes double roller set, fuel pump eccentric, distributor drive gear and crank oil slinger.

New timing cover from Partsdude, and balancer installed. I will have to wait to torque it until after I have something to give resistance, like the transfer output that I could put a wrench on.
Installed the 2 barrel intake, front accessories, motor mounts, and waiting on a water pump. For the oil pump, I am waiting a few days until I have the filter, then will assemble and prime. I also hard piped a gauge into the oil pressure port.
A little time left before the game, time to look ahead. This SM420 is great and quiet, it just jumps out of gear at odd times. So I have a Novak master rebuild kit ready to go.

I really enjoy reading your build thread, thanks for being so thorough!

By the way do you want to sell the Hooker headers you decided not to use?

Thanks for following along. I am going to sell a bunch of stuff leftover from this build, but I just don't have the time to go through the shipping process right now. I went to UPS around the holidays, box it up, drive across town, wait outside, 1 person in at a time, find out the cost, etc. So I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I will keep you in mind for the headers.

Across from Sierra House school, in the meadow area. I moved here during college for a summer job. On Memorial day, it will be 40 years.

I believe the transfer case in the '65 is original. It's a 1-1/8", small hole 18 that has been running fine and not leaking (much). But since my recollection of the last time we refreshed the jeep was "it ain't broke so run it", I think it is time for some attention. And, in my experience of catastrophic model 18 failures, I think an upgrade is in order, so I am going to set the original 18 aside and build a large hole, big shaft 18. Kicking around in the boneyard I found this jewell, a 20 with some history.
Holy crap, I don't know what happened here, but I bet it involved beer.
Tore it down, and most of it goes in the trash, luckily, I only need the large hole case.
Ran it through the bead blast cabinet, and this is a good foundation for a "super model 18".

On the top of your screen there is a web address bar. Copy and paste: Super Dana 18. You will be able to learn lots about this conversion.

The case itself is interchangeable between the dana 18 and the dana 20. The biggest change that needs to be made, off the top of my head, is relocating the oil fill hole from the rear of the case to the side and possibly a bit of clearancing internally (can't remember where).

The dana 20 is supposedly a slightly thicker casting than the 18, although dimensionally the same.
