I have a lot of paint on hand usually from the other projects I work on, mostly Rustoleum enamals - So, on a whim, I decided to fog 2-3 coats of tan gloss (I can find the real name if you want) to see what it looks like.

I think it'll look pretty good with a set of these wrapped around them:

    Deestone.tire.jpg
Ordered 5 of them, just in case they go out'a style (just my luck). Trying to decide what tubes to run in them. I don't hear folks talking about a preference much when I search on the topic. Maybe just grab the set that the tire shop recommends or has on hand? I was assured these particular wheels (even though they're riveted) are good-to-go, tubeless by the previous owner (a jeep guru in this area) I think I'm still deciding what I'll do.

Speaking about paint...can't say that the new Kaiser-willys catalog that just came in the mail, doesn't have me thinking about these choices:

    color.choices.jpg

If I were to guess, based on the tub under the dash where there looks to be some original paint peeking through and given the 1963 options, my jeep was likely a "White Cap" white Tuxedo Park.

Offers me some more motivation about where I want this build to go, which is to potentially do a faithful restore to the wheels/tires/interior/soft top, keeping as many Tux Park parts as I can (front bumper, find some hood emblems, re-chroming of the hood and windshield hinges)

Then maybe the jeep gets some basic body-work fixes, budget white paint, re-blacking of the windshield frame, and I call it good enough for the look/feel before I switch gears to the mechanical goals (big plans are always brewing)

I'd like to see it if you choose "white cap"! I'm planning on painting my jeep white, and I find that color intriguing. I like the classic creamy white

Edit: I think I got it wrong; apparently white cap is more of a bluish tint, where glacier white has that creamy color I was thinking about. I still want to see it!!! Paint on bigdaddy!

White Cap is a bright true white. Yes, the formula has blue in it, but the result has no blue tint when viewing the color.
The Glacier White is a softer white, but not really creamy.
The '64/'65 Tuxes were White Cap, then the '66/'67 Tuxes switched to Glacier White.

    What a difference.

    LLSG6577.JPG

I already like this setup SO much more than the Jackman/wagon wheels...Just more my style. Love the retro look.

As for ride quality - I took her for a quick jaunt around the block, and the ride seemed no less comfortable (for a JEEP). I am getting a bit of rubbing at full lock, but it's not bad, by any means. Just a bit of steering stop adjustment as others have mentioned in the past. My 9leaf/10 leaf spring packs certainly provide enough space around the tires for flexing and carrying a load, I think. MAYbe I'll consider a small shackle lift of .5" or so, but really need to keep this stock-ish height for entry/exit storage space considerations.

Good stuff, those look just like my 7.50 power kings. Though your new tires are Deestones, bias ply? Look good ;)

Don’t shoot me, but are they directional? I remember us always running them the other direction.

They are all directional, and they’re all clocked the way you see them. Totally a fair question because i’ve seen folks on this board and the CJ2a board run them both ways. :D :D
I figured i’d try one way and then try the other. They don’t seem to have a directional arrow molded into them, though? So, i didnt have a “route marker”.

These wheels and tires are the bee's knees. Very smooth, solid driving experience. I have no idea what PSI i'm running..lol..whatever the tire shop set them at - probably WAY too high, since they have somewhat of a center bulge, but regardless, the steering input is VERY much improved over the wider tires, I'm assuming due to less tire scrub.

OK, so I have some thoughts about installing alternator to replace the generator installed currently.

    • I have a bracket from a 225 that I'm going to try to adapt to my 198 that should allow me to run a Delco unit.
    • I'm thinking about a 90-100 amp Delco setup to help with Winch loads. (Recommendations?)
    • I'm thinking at the same time of moving my accessories to a fuse block type setup off a 8-10 gauge fused lead off the battery. I did my CJ2A this way with a Blue Sea fuse block and it seemed to work well. I put the headlights, CB radio, Interior lights, Dash liights, etc. (some combined based on amp draw) on their own circuits and it really simplified my rewire job.

Ok, so i know these aren’t 100% perfect but i’m pretty happy with how this came out. The vision is that they’re gussets but also tie-down points for lightweight stuff up above. Need to add the one to the other side, along with about 20-30ft more tubing and triangulation to my family cage. 9CF0BD19-F3DD-4C17-A6A6-04BD8195E825.jpeg

Also, took a few minutes to mock these up. They’re exactly what i was lookin’ for cost/design-wise and the build quality is top notch. These are STOUT.

Wanted a clean surface underneath the sliders. Only have 3 of probably 6-8 total fasteners installed. And yeah, that's a legit 1/8" of bondo that I flaked off to get to the rust for repair. Need to pull them back off to refinish the panel a bit (maybe a bit of sanding and re-bondo-ing? Not sure what I'll do, but I'm going to get all my fastener holes drilled first and take measurements for some spacers I'll be putting between the floor-boards and sliders.

Did you buy the tube sliders as a kit or did you bend them up yourself?

Picked up some 1.5” .120 wall yesterday and a bunch of precut gussets.

Blue tape has been great for planning my design.

Open to criticism on what i’m laying out, going to take my time on this part.

Trying to balance weight, creating nodes and also providing a support structure for a canvas/sunbrella top from classicjeeptops.
