Nice. I want to clean up the front of the TJ and that's on the list of projects.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a vintage type license plate where only one in the rear is required?

I can’t do “old timer” plates because it has to be 1943 or older.

I can’t do “street rod” plates because it has to be 1948 or older (not that I’d want a street rod plate).

I can’t do “classic” plates because it has to be “original or authentically-restored condition without major modifications from factory specifications.” And not be used for regular personal transportation. Oops.

I could possibly(?) find a 1949 ID plate that was issued for the “same type of vehicle” and have its “serviceability” condition verified by the state, then pay an extra $15 per year for renewal. Ouch.

I’ll stick with the standard plates that are already paid for.

I've been trying to find a 1966 Washington plate for my Tux. I would not need pay yearly registration fees. The only problem the plates are really pricey if I could find one. And putting a $100+ plate might invite tampering with the Jeep...

A vintage plate here lasts the life of the vehicle. One time payment.

You will never find a 1966 Washington plate. 1963 was the last year that a year date was stamped into the metal plate.

Actually I already have a sticker for the plate. The plate I need was made for only a few years, '65 - '67. It has Washington (spelled out) stamped below the numbers and white with green stamping. The '63 - '64 plate has only Wash. stamped below the numbers. A bunch of counties didn't use the '65 - '67 plates that's why their rare. And there are a lot of Mustang owners out there that want plates...

Are you opposed to just the new standard collector vehicle plates WA offers. I've been running one on most of my vintage jeeps for years. Assuming the Jeep has current license tabs, you just buy the plate one time and you're done. Never buy tabs again.

Looks like New Hampshire has a YOM license plate cut off of 1960. Bummer.... However, it appears the law is written to not specify the YOM plates be NH. I saw on another forum that someone was able to (legally) display a California plate. Thought that was interesting.

There’s a ‘49 ID plate on eBay right now. Or should I say plates. I guess we had F&R plates in ‘49?

Virginia last year for stamped plate was 75
and you have to have both to visit DMV
still it's iffy , if someone is using the number or letter combination with a different year plate
you'll have to get another set and start over again

I’ve got about 20 hours into the making of this post. :steamed:

This wiring harness continues to p!$& me off. They don’t give you any guidance on what relays or flashers to buy, only to pay $xx for their set of fuses and mystery flashers and relays. I’m not giving them another cent, so it was musical chairs until I finally gave up and ran wires out of the fuse panel to external flashers and relays. I have no idea how (or if) this thing was wired to ever work. It works now.

I spent a full day on the grill. I found space for the 2-tone horn(s) on the grill under the parking lights. Hard to see, but there’s one on each side, and it’s a super-tight fit. Air compressor relay is upper right.

Air compressor switch is an illuminated blue rocker switch under the headlight. It’s wired through a 90psi on/120psi off pressure switch. Cutting a perfectly rectangular hole in the dash wasn’t enjoyable. I’m waiting on a Motor Guard filter to arrive before I can finish the OBA and test it out.

I found a blue mini air filter at the LAPS today and grabbed it.

Too much time was spent on the horn. I was originally going to run a stock setup, but the Isuzu/Chevy hybrid column/wheel setup I’m running won’t allow a horn button due to the center nut protruding too far. I’ll make a pretty cap for it some day, but another solution needed to be found for the horn. I grabbed a typical horn button and made it fit the cap screws that hold the column to the cage. I re-ran all the wires to use an external relay, even though this crap fuse box was supposed to accommodate one. I drilled a hole through the side of the box to run the wires through for a clean finish.

About 1/4 mile from the gas station, there’s a hard right turn. The Jeep sputtered and almost died there when the gas shifted. I thought we were walking. It made it though. I filled it up, and it took 12 gallons. That’s a little more than I remember calculating. (y)

I took her along to help talk me out of a ticket. :D

Busy gas station, and it didn’t get a second look. Nobody knows what these are anymore.

I forgot to mention, I had my first Jeep wave! I passed a lifted CJ on the way there. We were both hanging out the sides waving so hard we almost gave each other high-5s.

I got a new (to me) sewing machine yesterday, and it is sooooo nice. I got busy making the shifter boots. I picked up 1/2 yard of fake leather from Wally World.
