Steve's 70 CJ5 Restore

    Are the clutch and brake arms interchangeable or are you able to move the brake arm over on the bracket assembly?

    Moved the pedal assembly up 3/4 inch and over about 1/4 inch. There is 9/16 inch clearance between the brake booster and valve cover. The engine would have to raise straight up 9/16 inch to hit the booster, not worried about anything now. Got the Saginaw steering box mount, tacked in place. Steering column is where it needs to be. Will work on the steering shafts before welding the steering mount in.

    Will that allow enough clearance to remove value cover and work on the value train?

    No, would have to pull booster master cylinder to get to valves. Engine has been rebuilt so should not have a issue for a while.

    That could get old real quick. I don't know the diameter of your booster but there may be one smaller that will give more clearance. For example, on my GPW, I have a middle 1980's S10 booster/master cylinder and have ample clearance to valve cover for maintenance.

    Welded the Power Steering gear mounted bracket on and painting it with POR-15. Made the panel to cover the heater holes and painted everthing. Bolted the pedals in and mounted the master cylinder and clutch cylinder.

    Got the E-Brake handle, adjusters and cable installed. When I install brake pads will able to finalize cables and adjust

    Over the past few weeks, got the brake pads for the rear disc and installed them. Installed the front knuckles, spindles and brake caliper mounts. Made a mount for the clutch slave cylinder and installed it. Got the tie rod made and did a mock up for the pitman arm, can now order it.

    Got the clutch slave installed and plumbed. Tie rods, drag link and pitman arm are done.

    Looks good.

    Maybe it's an optical illusion, will the tie rod will hit the exhaust when the axle is compressed?

    Had to move the heater to the passenger side. Got water hoses run to the heater and duct work done.

    Been working on the brakes, getting them bleed. Put the dash back in, working on redoing wiring. Got the studs for the hubs installed and started to install the hubs

    Got the brakes bleed, got a good pedal. Finished the E-Brake.

    Had a good weekend working on the Jeep. Finished all of the latest upgrades. Pushed the Jeep out of the garage and it would not start. I had taken a two wires off the coil and only put back one, put the other wire back on and it fired right up. Drove the Jeep up and down the street a couple of times, no license or insurance.

    The power steering upgrade is great, well worth the money and time.

    Dana 30 upgrade, like the turning radius

    The hydo clutch is good, smooth and does not take a lot of effect to push pedal.

    The power brakes will have to wait and see. The pedal was soft and the Jeep seamed to stop good. There was a bunch of stuff in the back of the Jeep and when I pushed on the brakes pedals hard, everything was sliding forward, so after that I was easy on the brake pedal. I have ceramic brake pads and there is a break in for them.

    Rear disk brake conversion. Will have to see.

    Emergency brake incorporated in the disc brakes. Brake worked good. Was hard to release, will have to look into that.

    The Jeep seams to be idling rich. Need to get carburetor adjusted.

    When I pulled the Jeep out of the garage, it looked good in the sunlight. I love the color I painted
