Should I have the machine remove the exhaust studs since i'm using headers?

 

Got the first power steering bracket, now waiting for the other expensive fabricated bracket to take the place of the factory aluminum one. I spent part of the day cleaning, blasting parts and placed a 1200.oo order to get things rolling. I have more parts to clean, but ran out of Varsol
The left front drum swedging is holding the drum in place, it crossed my mind to order new hubs just save time and the headache of de-swedging the rear drums.

Idea......if you can find the passenger side knuckle with the 2 hole tie rod configuration, your steering system will improve some. Yours now has a single hole. sorry I'm not explaining it well. Jeepster Commandos used the 2 hole pass knuckle. Others may have one plus a pic or two. It's a bolt in deal.

Some of us "Bubba did it guys" use a 5/8 hole saw to swedge brake drums. Worked well for me.

 

yes, Jim, I've seen those~ I'll have to google where to get one thank you and I'm sure I have a 5/8 hole saw, probably missing a few teeth. How about if I drill the wheel studs out from the backside, then knock the studs from the backside~ just a thought.

 

Why not? since your going disc and new studs certainly would be a good thing. A BFH can also be used to drive the studs out the back. I've done both plus also used a hydraulic press. The hammer technic is fun though

 

Another improvement to the knuckles is to put button head cap screws from the inside out for the spindles. It effectively gives you studs to mount the spindle. Make sure to do a light spot face around the inside surface so the button head will sit flat.

This change will help eliminate the threads from getting broken out which is a common problem in the stock configuration. Search around here for more info.

My little press from Northern Tools really comes in handy! It pressed these out with a little thud breaking the swedge!



I used a deep impact socket as the receiver.


Blasted the hubs


my HF blast cabinet is awesome!


guess I'll just continue blasting stuff for today~ the hub puller is supposed to arrive, then I can tackle my rear end

 

When it comes to lugs, do I buy stock lugs or do I want some that don't have such deep spline things since I won't be swedging?

 

You will need longer studs with the Metcalf conversion

I was wanting some nice looking diff covers, so I had some Krinkle paint, so what the heck! If it doesn't work out, I can always look for nice covers.
