No dice at McMaster Carr, but applied industrial at least has the seals on the website, but can't get them to me until the 23rd :waiting:. I ordered them so we will see which ones get here first.

I also found a set of axle tube seals which appear to be the correct OD and ID, I ordered those as well, they are coming from Lubbock Texas tho... also very slow.

So of the 3 sets of seals I ordered I should be able to keep my diff oil from getting to my wheel bearings... hopefully. Will either have a seal in the spindle or a seal in the axle tube, if the timing of the shipping works out I may have both :D.

    :(

    James , you ordered on-line 2pcs. 471193 Timken.

The manufacturer has advised us that the lead time on this item
is 7-9 weeks, and is non-returnable/non-cancellable.

Due to the long lead time, we're cancelling out your order unless you
authorize us to backorder this item.

Thanks for looking out for me (y). Interesting it says two left in stock. Those are the two I ordered on Sunday. I haven't received any sort of response from them yet regarding my order so we shall see.

Well that order got cancelled. The seller refunded my money AND gave me a $20 credit towards future purchases. Maybe I'll try eBay since the sellers typically have the stuff in their hands when they list it.

Seriously!!!! That rocks!!! I had also ordered the SKF brand from applied but they cancelled it also. Then today I got this from the eBay seller:

    You received a refund

    Your order was canceled

The seller canceled this order due to the following reason: Buyer asked to cancel the item(s) in this order.

They sent a refund to your original payment method.

It's odd since it says buyer asked to cancel the item... but I didn't

Anyway I'll send you my addy if you send me your paypal (y).

    Thanks so much, that's awesome.

So the day after the seals that Kyle sent me, the 5th set I ordered showed up
    [IMG]

So this all went together perfectly. New bearings and seals and all cleaned up.

We had to cut the shock mounts off since they were in the wrong spot. My son helped and welded in a small knick on the tube where we ground the mount off. He's calm and patient so he's sort of a natural at welding.

Went and got 3" U-bolts, finished my U-bolt plates that get the nuts up out of the way (forgot to take a pic). Got new spring perches that fit 3" tubes and finally got the axle in the Jeep. Daughter helped me bleed the brakes.

And then I discovered the drive shaft is too short to reach the high pinion setup :(. It's funny because I measured the angle of the low pinion offset axle and compared it to the angle of the high pinion centered axle and it was within 1.5 degrees so I figured I was good to go. I didn't measure the length .

So I'm about to do some research and figure out what kind of donor vehicle might have a drive shaft that will work for me. My original drive shaft is 16.5" collapsed and 18" extended. At full extension I am 1.25" too short to hit the pinion.

In the meantime my daughter added some boost to my now BLOWN CJ5!!!!

    Then we washed it.

Kids thought it was hysterical that we would just hose out the interior

It looks like this would be the correct length with a double carden on it

Do you need a double cardan?

I don't know. Do double cardan's help or hurt driveline angle. It will make the shaft shorter so I suppose it would hurt some but do they allow for more articulation in the joint?

My rear driveshaft is approximately 16". I have never had a problem with it.

If you do a double cardan, you also need to point your yoke at the back of the transfer case. Since a double cardan is a CV joint, you can't have any angle on the rear joint. A CV and a regular joint can't cancel each other out like a normal driveshaft does.

It only helps driveline angle in the way that pointing the pinion towards the t-case raises the lower u-joint in relation to the upper joint(s), so yes, it lessens the angle, but double cardans typically have less articulation in the joint without going to a super-expensive extended travel joint.

I personally like how that angled pinion helps get the lower joint and shaft away from trail junk, but with your HP unit, you probably don’t need that benefit.

I went to the CV joint driveshaft because I had drive line vibration. My rear pinion is angled up and the transmission skid plate is lowered 1", and still had a vibration. It has been smooth since I installed the CV Driveshaft. Just my $.02.
