That should have thrown oil unless the bearing was sealed to the outside.

I'd pull the bearing retainer and check the bearing. Replace the seal inside the bearing retainer and the gasket. It looks like a long input so the bearing retainer may have a seal in it (most likely does, most of the long shafts did). I use Ultra Black RTV on the bolt threads after cleaning the bolts and holes thoroughly with brake cleaner. Acts like a weak thread locker and eliminates seepage past the threads.

I probably should have done that but since I like pulling the transmission out so much I’ll just throw it back together.:sneak:

it all definitely seems better. I put the shifter on and easily goes into 3rd. I shifted it then pulled the shiver off to check.

I’m going to wait until the longer fork I ordered to arrive before putting it back in the Jeep. I just have to figure out how to get it off the work bench!!!

Ugh. I feel your pain... (Back? LOL) the transfer case and tranny, especially the former is one heavy SOB! I needed to upgrade my tranny jack from the scissor type to a proper hydraulic/safety chain setup to deal with it. At least the tranny proper, sans bellhousing, is light...

So here's something I'm curious about... While I've never rebuilt my T14, I have built other manual transmissions and have seen the insides of my T14. That said, I can't remember details about spacing and missing oil slingers like you guys are talking about. Heck, I can't remember such details about stuff I did a year ago! You guys are incredible... What's the secret?

Take and keep good notes! Seriously. This will markedly help your retention. And measure and mark your parts.

The jeep is back together and shifting all gears great! That was a heck of a lot of work to tighten 3 small bolts. Thanks for all the input. I’m grateful for y’all and really happy I didn’t have to rebuild the tranny!

I've heard it said, "The weakest ink is stronger than the strongest memory." So far in my experience, this holds true.

Glad you got it sorted out and working Scott! (y)
