I see the ears Donny was referring too. I have heard 198 parts like water pumps are hard to come by....disappointed it is a 198.....probably sell the 198 for parts and build up a 225 core engine I have in storage.

The Jeep does have an overdrive with all the PTO parts missing

The 198 shares the same bell housing pattern as the Buick 215 V8, AKA Rover V8, I don't know for sure, Rover may be a source for a water pump? Your bell housing looks like aftermarket like Keys said. Looks like a nice period correct Stewart Warner tach, this Jeep will be a great foundation. Has the required PO installed toggle switches and gauges. Didn't see a shifter for the OD. Great find! Keep us posted.

Since you have the bellhousing for the 198, and presumably the motor mount are for that, I'd go ahead and run it.
That looks to be an early Scout steering wheel and column, what does it have for a steering gear?

The water pump is the same for the Buick 198 V6 and 215 V8. I have interchanged the water pump with a 225 also, but I may have swapped pulleys too. I ran a Buick 215 in my Jeep for over 20 years, and I believe its a direct swap with the 198, motor mounts and bellhousing. I'd run the 198 provided you have the accessories. Parts are not impossible to find, but you have to figure the engine is almost 60 years old. It has good power and torque, especially compared to the F134.
If your up to a full swap, a Land Rover alloy V8 Discovery engine will bolt up to your bellhousing as its the same engine as the Buick 215. The Rover engine is avalable from 3.5 liter (215 cu in) up to 4.6 liter, and its very light and has great power. Your T90 trans is strong enough to stand up to the torque of these V8s.
No matter what you choose to do, you aopear to have a great starting point for a Jeep project.

I may be interested in it if its a 198. I have one in my jeep now and was thinking of wanting a spare.

Interesting too as i was looking to repaint my motor but was shocked it was painted orange and not buick green...now there is yours that same color...must have been a thing.

Is there such a thing? I thought Chevy ruled the orange motor market? Like i mentioned mine is orange to and when i pull it i was planning on one of the Buick Greens as i figured that was more appropriate. Since my jeep is a teal already i could see where both colors would be cool. Closer matching or orange to stand out. Anyone know what is going on about the 198 being orange?

Several old Mopar engines were orange. I painted my F head "Hemi Racing Orange". Good for 10hp. Also, Richard is your new jeep "omaha orange? I think that is the original color of mine, going by inside of the toolbox. Looks great

Actually the orange is on top of the blue green color.....I think the original color was Jade tint.

So the jade tint is original color and since then people have been painting them orange? I’m a little confused

    1) I love that tach!
2). Is that a turn and bank indicator next to the tach? This jeep may have had an IFR rating!
