Great news~ Took it out for its first test drive! I was so worried about the transmission, but it shifted very smoothly through all gears, even the winch works very well! ;)

I'm a little bothered by the power booster~ typical test for vacuum acts like it's not getting enough, if any vacuum to it. I ordered a vacuum gauge as I have no idea where mine went~ just seems like there's not enough vacuum, but had enough for the day, it was great! It's very fun to drive, very solid, no rattles;) The brakes are Ok, but I want the booster to work. I may look at an electric vacuum pump for maximum vacuum vs engine vacuum. Even removing the vacuum port at the base of the carburetor seems relatively not very strong~ However, nearing the end except for little stuff;)

We decided on this nylon rope from Amazon, 1/2" x 94', working on the old bumper to see if we can rejuvenate it. It was fun using the engine/winch to draw it in~ ;)

I would bet that diamond plate covers rust and/or damage. But you certainly have the skills to repair it.

It looks like a good project start, But I think it is time for you to step up to a Dauntless V6 cj5 and show us what you can do with it. Just my opinion. You do excellent work.

Thanks for all the cool feedback and compliments~ Yes, I'd really rather have one setup with the dauntless engine~ it's just a matter of patience, however, Gary wants me to get rid of something before venturing to buy something else:( My 59 Apache is on my list to say goodbye to~ my 67 Mustang and TR6 I'm going to hang onto. So, I'll just keep waiting for that dauntless jeep to come about.
there was one on CL a little while back, but I hesitated and it disappeared pretty quickly.
On the jeep in question, I was a little concerned about the checker plate coverings~ but it looked like a pretty "easy" restoration especially now after doing Robs Willys~ but I'm going to keep my eyes on it all the same.
    dne' ;)

Well, first off, thank you longnlow for the super compliment;) and Grant for the links~
As said, my husband wants me to wait a while before diving into another project~ I do disappear to the shop for hours on end when I'm playing with a project, and I have neglected my 3 other classic cars which are in need of attention~ so easy to put off what needs to be done and easily jump into something else! But it's still fun to shop~ and when shopping, it is for another project, not one completed~ I guess I just like tearing old things apart and making them the way I want them;)

You know I'm not quite finished with my brothers jeep:( It needs a starter for one and some misc things,k heard that a Toyota starter might fit?.
However, in the meantime, I had my #65 Birthday party based on my Classic Cars and Tools. I washed all my classics and luckily weather permitted me to park them outside;)

Inside my garage I cleaned out most everything and turned it into a Disco party! lights, runway, loud music! However went inside to eat just a sliver of ice cream birthday cake;)

The usual family members always show up and they enjoyed the break from a "normal" party~ more action less sitting on a sofa starring at one another eating fatty foods!

Outside the grandkids loved the jeep as it is a fun thing! The kiddo in the back just loves to push buttons~ grrr, I had switched off the battery so nothing was alive;)

I'll keep this thread alive until Rob has driven or pulled his jeep away.
    dne' ;)

it will, and it will be a great improvement over the old one. heres one on mine.

Starter #16224 from a Toyota. Easy peasy install. For sanity sake, I highly suggest an Allen head bolt to replace the stock bolt on top. That was the absolute worst part of the install. some minor egging out on the 'yota starter, and its a direct bolt up.
