I finally got around to replacing a bad u-joint on my front driveshaft but the new u-joint doesn't fit. It seems my driveshaft yoke hole diameters (.9375) are smaller than the transfercase and pinion yokes (1.0625). Making the timken 5-153X not fit.
Both ends of the driveshaft seem to have uneven axis caps and I'm not sure if this is right?

Caps should be same size all the way around.
Except for the smaller V6 front shaft u-joints.
A good driveline shop could weld on new yokes if needed.

Thank you. I'm thinking with the labor involved get a quote but a good used one will be easier and cheaper to do.

A decent parts guy can match the joint. Chevy used a few that had different caps some with different caps and cross lengths. The back of the old school parts book has a chart to mix and match caps and crosses.

I have one local bearing house to check with.
I've checked the parts books. The old timers at the stores know better when you bring parts with you... or I'm not very pretty (might send the wife in)
If the smaller cap was 1.0625 I would be fine.
The caps have grooves yoke does not. Clips go around the cap. Both ends of the shaft are like this.

Just food for thought - when I have swapped a Tcase from a 4 cyl to a V6 based setup. The yokes do not match up. The V6 used a smaller U-Joint than the 4 cyl on the front drive line and yokes. One of the 'fixes' I've seen used have been these types of U-Joints with different sizes to fit the top of the drive shaft to the Tcase.

IIRC, Spicer did make a UJoint that had different size trunnion caps, I don't remember the sizes, too many birthdays since then. Don't know if that applies to your application or not. Nickmil seems to have the best advice. Good luck!

I had the same front shaft on my 60 CJ-5 Spicer distributor could find anything. I ended up replacing the shaft with a NOS from Walcks

New old driveshaft is here waiting to be cleaned. The clips are different than the existing shaft so that is a good sign. The slip joint is much smaller diameter on the donor shaft so I might keep an eye out for the proper conversation u-joints, all I found went 1.0625 to bigger.
