The wagon has the 11" brakes - I believe they are Wagner? - that have the drums inboard of the hub and are not self adjusting. They work fine for now (probably because they are well adjusted and I hope to keep them that way), but I imagine at some point I might switch them over to the later Bendix 11" brakes with outboard drums and self-adjusters (common on the AMC era CJs etc - and which I currently use on my ecj5). Guessing the common Bendix will be easier and cheaper to maintain? Can these 11" Bendix brakes be run with oem style steel wheels (either 15" or 16")? thanks!

    Lockheed IIRC.

The bendix drums have issues with oem riveted 15" wheels.

Are you sure ? My 1975 came stock with 11" Bendix finned drums and 15" wheels ? I guess the difference was that my OEM wheels aren't riveted ? o_O

That's Plenty of clearance.... 15" wheels are a little less. Thanks for great detail pic . Nice paint detail on the wheel cylinders . Is that MFG's color when new ?.

I am not sure what wheels came on a 75, but guessing they are wider and allow for larger brake drums than the 15x4.5 that came on the early cjs and wagons. On the cj I put 11" drums and the aftermarket 15x8 wheels are fine. Maybe I should test fit the steel rims on the cj to see....as much as I like the original steel rim look, there just are essentially no options for taller tires that will fit on the 15x4.5 rims. The 16" have more options.

I used to run the 15 x 8" Kelsey Hayes (Renegade l wheels) on my Wagon. I will be using them again. They protrude a little past the sheetmetal, but a rounded tread/sidewall tire makes it hardly noticable on a 31" tire. I think those rims just look "right" on a Wagon.
I have a set of 4 1/2" X 16" rims with (I think) 6.50 -16 mud tires on my wagon now, and they are too skinny. The sidewall of the rear tire must be 3" inside of the of the quarter panel surface.
All of these rim combinations fit fine with the stock 11 x 2 brakes. I've never had any stopping issues with the stock brakes, other than a leaky master cylinder.
