Correct. No spring back, and this was prior to current issue.

Not sure how to start manually. Starter was replaced yesterday, after issue started.

Do you have a way to turn the engine over by hand? What engine do you have? 47V6 is just saying verify that the engine isn't for some reason stuck. Regardless of anything else though, replacing the switch is in order before troubleshooting much more.

Well Robert somehow I missed you when you first posted back in early July so welcome from Cordele Georgia. Reading back I see you have the Dauntless 225 V6. If you add pertinent info about your jeep to your signature it helps us to diagnose your problem without asking pages of background info.
As stated a new ignition switch is needed as a starting point. It's a pretty common switch and doesnot need to be exact if you are not restoring back to factory original. Tractor supply should have one in stock. That starter (replacement) you got has probably been setting on the shelf for some time so it's always best to bench test it before install.

Hey, walt! If I have to take that starter off again, I'm going to lose it... normally have them bench test before I leave the store with it, but was frustrated after spending over an hour (and 2 shirts) getting the old one off...

New ignition switch is the next step. Have to find one, but hadnt thought about tractor supply...

Ok, here's the latest for those of you who may be able to help me out.

225 dauntless in my cj5. Wont start. Jeep is dead in the water. No lights, no clicking from the starter, nothing.

Starter/solenoid are new, ignition cylinder switch is new, and battery is good. Still no joy. I'm crap with electrical, so any help is appreciated!

Check the ground connection at the battery and at the other end, attached to the frame? or body?

Battery cable from negative terminal to the frame and/or engine block is the ground strap.

Check for good contact at both ends of both cables. Including the clamp-to-cable attachments.

What I have for major grounding is negative (small) end of battery cable at starter bolt. At right motor mount I have a short flex cable from the engine mount bolt and then to the frame near the mount. I then have a strap from the frame up to the tub near the battery area.

Would any of that be an issue caused by leaving the key in the start position though?

Divide and conquer! Start with the issue of "no lights". All you should have to do is pull the switch and lights should come on--right?

No need for ignition key, no need for working starter. Just trouble-shoot what's causing "no lights". Check to see if you have an original fuse system/breaker system and that all is good. Be sure all your connections are good as suggested.

Get lights, then see what needs remain. As you're digging around you may stumble across the "culprit"/starting problem. Fried wiring???

Absolutely yes. When the starter motor was running for who knows how long and then fried, at some point the system was drawing maximum power that the battery and it's wires including the ground wires we are talking about would have gotten very hot and maybe even melted in two inside the wire covering. Get you a 12 volt test light and we can do some troubleshooting.

You said you smelled wiring that had gotten hot. Chances are it still smells a little bit, can you find which one it is?

Ok, so first off, I'm a blithering idiot. Here's what I figured out.

There is an anti theft device between the battery and starter. While trying to see if I was getting 12v to the starter (knew the battery was putting out 12.5v), I noticed I had 12v in, but only 7v out. I pulled the stupid thing out and the piece of junk was melted on the underside. Needless to say I bypassed it, and prayed for the best.

The 12v into the starter also feeds the accessories. Lights popped right on, and the old girl started right up...

Thanks for all the help, lads. Sorry for wasting your time.

I didnt know the stupid thing was there. Not sure if my dad put it in or my brother did, but it was tucked in behind the battery... :(

    Thanks man.
