    Smarter people may offer other advice on that ..... But I myself would NOT space the main pulley . It could through your Harmonic Balancer out .
    You need a shallower pulley for your water pump. It looks like you have determined the Measurements needed. I would focus a search along those lines , first

    You're missing that the old style pump is near obsolete, and so pretty darned expensive. And apparently the only part that precludes her from upgrading to a pump which is the same as every other model year CJ5 with a 304 is a pump pulley.

    Well, I have a 72, so I took a look at mine. I’ve got the same problem. The pulleys are offset. Mine seems to work ok though. @Candace If you decide to get rid of your old one, lmk. I’ll rebuild it.

    Your pulleys seem to be in the exact same place in relation to each other as mine. It hasn't caused any problems?
    This whole thing is kind of frustrating and I've been doubting myself and second-guessing everything I've done, even just tightening a bolt. I'm afraid I'm going to do it wrong and somehow the whole engine is going to blow up.
    :(:cry::confused:

    Mine doesn’t seem to be causing a problem, but I’ve only had the fella for a couple of months and just got to the point where I can run the motor. I’ll correct the offset in the future when there aren’t more pressing repairs to get it on the road.

    Mmm. I would not accept that much of an offset. The pulleys should be aligned.

    Candace, it's your Jeep, and you'll have to decide. If it were for me, I would have sent the pump back already, bought the correct part, and likely be on the road. It's generous of Chilly to help you by sending his pulley that may work ok - using a pulley that makes the belts line up would be another acceptable approach for me.

    Ya, he said he would send it. I'm hoping it will work. Money is super tight.

    Pulley got packed up my movers. Theyre delivering on Wed, but it could be a while until moving priorities reach Jeep parts boxes. Sorry about that.

    My recommendation is to send it back before 30 days is up, get that correct pump.

    @Candace Here are the pages from the 72 TSM for troubleshooting your fuel gauge. I don't know if the info from the 74 manual is the same.
