I cant seem to get oil pressure to read on a remote gauge on a newly rebuilt 226. I dropped the pan and pulled the pump. Put in oil and spun shaft with a drill the oil flew across my shop so the pump works.

I'm wondering if this is the cause ? This is the rear of the cam before I put in the expansion plug. I would think that the hole should be covered by cam but I showed it to Mike at Kaiser willy's and his engine guy said the way I had it was correct. Any input before I put this pan back on ??

I hope that it is just the gauge which is broken!

Well, that was the 1st thing to look at. Control the controls. Then you will have the help of all forum specialists. Be patient, the solution will come. Then, maybe, some money involved. That's our Jeep-guys life.

I don't see how oil pressure could build with such a large opening to contend with.
    Doesn't look right.
And I'm not that familiar with that engine.

When I rebuilt mine I had the machine shop install the cam and valves so can only say I agree doesn't look right and can't see oil pressure being able to build at all.

It's messy but I've done this.

Put the pump back on but leave the pan off.

Either spin the pump with a drill (with the pickup in a container of oil) or pump oil into the main gallery through a passage port.

Look underneath & see where the oil is coming out- fresh bearings will weep, something on the loose side but still ok should dripdripdrip.

If there's no gushers & you still can't build oil pressure it has to be your pump.

So Howard you are saying that rear area of the camshaft in the picture is correct ?
Is that a drain back to the pan ?

It should be easy enough to determine if it's a drain back into the block.

Not sure to be honest with you. Stick a wire down it & see if it comes out anywhere?

So the problem was not the pump. What happened was the machine shop put the back cam bearing in backwards. He lined up the hole with the drain. The bearing should be the other way with the oil over the galley. Soooooo. Pulling the motor and taking it apart .... again
