I'm sure you could re-purpose some Volvo headlight wipers to keep that plexiglass panel clean and clear.

I gave up on the seatbelts the other day and moved onto something equally as frustrating. I wasn't happy with the shifter location, especially since I got the seats in. It took three complete redesigns to end up with something I can live with. (The shifter boot is going to get complicated.) I still might bend the shifter rearward a few more inches, but it's better than it was. I moved the shifter up 3" and rearward 1 1/2", and I twisted the mount a little; this angled the shifter away from the seat.

When we got our Volvo station wagon, the shifter rattled. I complained and the dealer tried to fix it several time and finally upgrade me to the optional rattle. Year latter I found out that a metal weight in the knob that was making the noise...

Only because I only ever show the end result. None of the swearing, hair-pulling, head scratching...

Volvo shifting patterns have improved. I remember our 122s and 554s having reverse WWWAY over to the right and down and heavily sprung to keep you from going there unless you really wanted to

If I could figure out how to fit a 5-spd, I'd be all over it.

Probably not. The wiring harness is from an automatic. They have the low-gear light, but I'm sure it'll get lost in translation with the 4-spd. I think it got its signal directly from the trans.

I think it's rpm related. Any thing above 2K the light comes on, except for fifth...

I figured out the upper mounts for the seat belts. They were frustrating me because the tab has an oversized 5/8" hole, and the Torx shoulder bolt that came with it is an M11x1.0 thread. Unobtanium. So I had to come up with something different.

I re-used some extra 5/8" wheel studs and old lugnuts from my '64 Ford. I bottomed the threads, then cut down the center of the nut.

Then I cut some coins out of 1/4" and drilled 5/8" holes in the center and pressed the splined section of the stud into the hole. I tacked it in place, then cut the flanged end off the stud.

I welded the coin into a section of tubing and cleaned it up. The nut bottoms in the threads before it tightens on the seat belt tab, so the tab still spins freely.

The tubing got coped and tacked in place.
