Originally white but of course were rattle canned years ago and have rock rash on lips. Having them gone through to re-true, blast and then paint or powder coat.

Would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Also need to know if the backs of the wheels were originally black with the inside and outside of the wheel white?

Also does anyone have the correct white paint code?

I'm probably a fringe minority, but I have come to be against powder coating. In my part of the country I see powder coating destroy a lot of things.

A small chip lets in the corrosion, then it spreads far and wide trapped under the coating and festers there. Eventually the coating falls away in sheets.

I have always had excellent results with spray-can Rustoleum.

I understand Glacier White was the correct white wheel color.
You can find the code on the paint chips on the internet.

I have used Dupont paint mostly, but also Sherwin Williams. Dupont / Nason Urethane 2K is good paint. Nason is the lower level of Dupont, just doesn't have a warranty if it messes up which would be hard to prove it was the paint's fault unless you are a professional body shop.
The cheap gravity fed guns from Harbor Freight work very well, I keep 3 or more of them around when the go on sale.

I can't speak about the 8" KH wheels used on the Renegades, but the regular CJ5s a few years earlier had the wheels originally painted black overall, then shot with white over the outside face.
As far as powdercoating, the durability comes down to the prep and thickness. I've had great results, and terrible results.
If well done, powedercoating is hard to beat.

I would go powder. If you really want a nice finish, have them powder over the white with clear.

Thank you for the responses so far gentlemen. Would everyone here agree that the correct color for these Renegade1 wheels should be Glacier White?

All stock jeep wheels were C White. I have jeep literature that states the color. I have no color info on K-H wheel color for the 69 "462" or the 70 Rene l. 71 Rene ll used D slot aluminum.

I'm actually in the paint camp, too. All of those rusty Rugged Ridge and Smittybilt bolt-on geegaws were powder coated at one point.

A well-prepped steel wheel, sprayed with a durable epoxy, and top-coated within a day of the epoxy will be a very durable coating. I'm an amateur painter hack with no talent so dont give my opinion much weight.

Here's some truth: powder is a huge advantage for the OEM sprayer. Less waste, less VOC hassle, less respirator concerns, less skill required (lower wages). If the industry can convince the consumer that it's a better coating then it'll continue to be popular.

Champagn White is a '69-'70 color, maybe newer too. My old paint reference ends with 1970. The Ditzler code is 8818.

I did mine with two part single stage urethane applied with a cheap gun, look great & the paint is tough.

Those cheap Harbor Freight gravity fed HVLP guns work well. I have caught them on sale for
    $12 -$15. I have 2 working and 4 still in the box.

Only had one to go bad, the cup cracked.

That single stage 2K urethane holds up well.

20 fl. oz. HVLP Gravity Feed Air Spray Gun

If you get a run wait until it dries, sand it out with 400 grit sand paper and re- spray.

Thank you all for your input. So I have a wheel repair guy that has been around for 30+ years going through all 5 rims.
He will true them up if needed, blast them clean, powder coat the backs in black and then paint the outside in Champagne White 432
I will post up pics of the final product when he is done in two weeks.

This is the before pic. It does appear that the backs were painted black, the inside were primered white and the outside was painted white. They were rattle canned black by the PO

I also, have about 4 or 5 in the box waiting to be used. Makes them almost disposable at the sale prices.

From this to this. Stripped, true'd, powder coated black, then outside enameled acrylic #432 Champagne White. Considering they were out of round and had tons of lip rash, I think they turned out amazing! Thank you all for your thoughts and help. 20190331_101356.jpg
