A 1966 CJ5. What is the material used to not have metal to metal contact on the fender to cowl and the fender to grill attachment? The PO used clear silicone but I think there should be a better way?

I just used the Mortite recently on my build. Seems to work well. Used it on headlight buckets as well.

The best way to post photos is to use a hosting site and post a direct link using the Image icon...

    Thanks for the attempt, Cap.
That might as well be in German but I’ll figure it out.
    My problem, not yours.

Just located and ordered gasket material for fender to cowl and fender to grill.
    1/16” x 1” x 10’ (grill) 1/16 x 2” x 10’ (cowl) Neoprene. Self adhesive. $30.00 free shipping.

The product I use between the fender and body tub, floor plats to tub, etc is "GacoFlex Roof Tape". Its a 2" wide self adhesive seam tape made from butyl and EPDM rubber thats about 1/16" or less thick. A scissors cuts it down to thinner strips, and the strips can be doubled for helping to seal the tunnel floor plate to the tub.

Did you use the neoprene or silicone strips?

I did not use them yet but they are neoprene, according to the vendor.

I have an aluminum body, so all the steel parts are insulated from the aluminum with pieces of plastic milk jugs, the bolt heads are all insulated with fiber washers, and the bolt shanks are all covered with plastic tube coated liberally with NoOX. The only exception is the dashboard, where I insulated it from the body completely, so I could add or take things away without a lot of trouble. So far, anything I've taken off or fooled with has had no oxidation at all. I grew up with really rusty cars, can you tell?

What, if anything, did they leave the factory with?

The ones I've seen were assembled with butyl tape/rope, like Mortite. Between the tub and fenders, and fenders and grille, as well as the floor plates. I presume on the fenders it was put there to stop squeaks and rattles from steel-on-steel. On the floor plates it stops water from coming in.
