Well, s%#t. It sat there for over a week and they didn't have a lift available to pull the pan.
Figures. I head back out for probably most, if not all, of February for skiing while snow is good and I don't want Willie just sitting there for a month, so I picked him up. Supposedly I can call as I get closer to returning and set an 'appointment' to make sure it's not just sitting there. This is getting so frustrating.

Don't blame you at all. I had my Tux at a place for repair in Wyo years ago and the guy was selling parts off of it. When I found out and went to get it from him he was in jail for car theft..(figure) His wife told me he had a bad drug problem. Came pretty highly recommended.

Seems as though you're getting the runaround treatment now.....that is absolutely shameful!

This is getting to be a serious problem, even on respectable Main Streets. I am starting to think oxycontin accounts for a lot of the idiocy and incompetence I run into.

One individual I had this trouble with was a police sergeant, who later resigned rather suddenly. Another member of the force lost his son to an OD.

It's a people thing. I did some joy driving it down to the gate to get the mail. But I'm not gonna stress for now. Head back to the mountains then spend my birthday at Telluride and Purgatory.

Maybe look at it this way; If he's good, He's busy. When He gets your rig up on the lift, hopefully he finds the issue and fixes it, no matter how long it takes. Meanwhile somebody else is waiting for their turn.

Dropped Willie off yesterday afternoon. Today the guy with the lift said oil pressure good so pulled pan. Found bearing wear and metal in the pan. Said looks like correct bearings and his mic shows crank ok but he can feel a ridge and his mic not high end like a machine shop would use. His best guess is something flushed out of the engine somewhere. The rebuilder/machine shop person who is responsible was headed over at 5 to look and decide. So I should know something tomorrow but I'm wanting the crank pulled and trued up if he can feel a ridge. Which means either pulling the engine, or my vote, pull the tranny while its up on the lift.

I knew I heard something not right at the 100 mile mark. I may be old and unable to hear when the wife calls, but I can detect the slightest odd sound on cars.

I had not noticed this thread before today, sorry for your plight. When I read about the rattle and it appearing at 2k rpm and goes away with clutch depressed made me think skirt rattle/slap.
I didn't fully read (pg 1 and last page only). Not sure if you had bore and new pistons or just a hone and rings. Did mechanic check for evidence of scuffing in bore?

Rebuilder called and agrees that something had to have flushed thru the system and trashed the bearings. Not sure if something was left in block from vating it or what but he thinks caught in time. He is going over to where it's on the lift to personally polish the crank, put new bearings in and change oil/filter. He said that should solve it but if not then it will be pull it out and go thru again. So it's a good thing I didn't take his initial assessment when I started hearing it at the 80 mile mark and just keep on driving it (or take it to the mountains) because it was so suttle that is probably just these old engines are noisey. But he seems to be taking care of it, which is good. Should get it back first of week and start driving it again, but I want to get a good 300-500 miles on it before I say solved. So still fingers crossed.

I'm still trying to explain to the wife "how the hell I can hear that suttle of a sound but can't seem to hear her sometimes".
