At last, it is running again. set timing to a little before 5 BTDC and it is pulling constant 20" of vacuum at the intake (drops to 15 when I rev it up). need to check at the T to see if there is a leak but I just replaced all the lines so I HOPE there is not.

Still has a slight hesitation when I give it gas that I would like to get rid of. I have a new distributor that I need to put in it as soon as I get a replacement cap spring clip (it broke and they are sending me a replacement). Hope that will fix the hesitation as I think the old distributor is a little loose on the inside. if not, then I will attack the carb....

when I connect to the T (line to the Vacuum Boost) I am only getting 5", when replacing the vacuum lines, I made sure that the PVC and all the connections were tight. Only thing left is the PVC to exhaust valve cover or the cover itself, CORRECT??? how else can I look for the leak???

What plugs are you running? An HEI kind of ties your hands when it comes to tune-ups.

ok talk to me about checking vacuum... please

I have constant 20" at the connection to the intake. If I move back to the T (side that goes to the vacuum assist) it drops to 5"

I looked in the FSM and only see where it says to check vacuum at the intake and constant 20 is a good number.

should I worry about the drop at the T or is that a bogus number.

Just don't know if I am done looking into vacuum issues or not. the FSM is not much help.

I don't have the PCV hooked up on mine so I can only wonder about the difference. With the system hooked up does it still idle and run as good?

I need to disconnect it and see how it responds. Honestly don't remember - I was just happy it started again :)

seems to be running good right now. took it out for a drive around the neighborhood and it felt great. I could not get up to speed as I have no windshield at the moment. Having new glass out in my venting windshield. the wind noise kept me from hearing the engine but it felt peppy.

when I disconnect the 2nd line off the t there is no change in idle or response. I can definitely hear it sucking air in and when I cover it with my finger I can feel the suction but there is no change to how it is running. with it connected, I can not hear any air moving like I did with the line off. However, the vacuum gauge is only reading 5 at that spot.
I get the vacuum at the manifold but it seems to me that the engine is not "sealed"
(oil fill, breather line from oil fill to air filter)
so while it is sucking air/gasses out of the engine, the whole engine is in effect a big leak.... Admitting that I really don't know what I am talking about even after trying to read up on it.

to be honest, if I had not seen the vacuum reading at the T I would be assuming all is good based on how it seems to be running..... being that it is a mechanical advance and not vacuum, I am not sure what the issue is and if there really is one.

guess my question is, do I just move on and deal with other issues or is this something I need to figure out if I am going to get the best performance I can out of this engine.

Get a carter YF for the 134 motor. It will run with a solex, but it wont run well.

Also, maybe I misread your previous post...you have an electronic distributor? With mechanical advance for the timing?
