    Major set back tonight :(

After all the work i've done on the new timing cover i'm not able to get the distributor in.

I know that oil pump and distributor align as i was the first thing i check when cheking it.

The most of it i get in was around 3/16" to get it a the bottom. I turn the crank by hand to accomplis this and i know that i make the pump turn. Also when i got at that point the distributor was real tight, not able to move the fixed part of it. I had to turn the crank reverse so i can get the distributor out.

So by week night i will just put back my old cover and i'll see if i can still fit in.

The only thing i that i may have done something wrong is the timing chain i installed before.

    Photo to come tomorow morning

I have a aftermarket timing cover, had a heck of a time trying to get my distributor in. Ended up greasing the O-Ring and it slide right in.

i don't like the distributor to be tight...i chew a cam gear couple of years ago.

i will see my option but it's most chance i put the old cover on the engine.

So happy to start again on the lapping process....

Put back the old timing cover on the engine....distributor fully seat on the first try, slip in easily.

So i had a bad cover

Lets start the lapping process again

Wow that is interesting.............have you tried comparing measurements on both covers from the flat face of the cover that goes against the block to the edge or center of the distributor bore hole? I suspect one is greater than the other...........or have your tried loosening the new cover and see if the distributor drops in?

Yes i did mesure them when i got the timing cover. Did it with a micrometer and there wasnt big difference.

I may not be enought carefull when checking. There is no need for big difference and it could be just a matter of angle of the hole of the distributor...nothing i think i could have mesure and the pump was aligning perfectly with the dist...

I should have try direct on the engine first of all with the distributor in. But i did check if pump and distributor fit together.

So i start working on the old cover. Good news is that before lapping i was at 0.004" and i did bring it fast to around 0.002-0.003" pretty fast.

I just need to finish cleaning the cover (tiny corner hard to reach) and i'll be ready to install the crank seal.

So worked 3 day in a row after my job.

Engine is fully sealed now, i've been carefull and i use a torque wrench on every bolt of the timing cove/oil pan and rear main seal.

Tonight i should be able to finish putting everything together. I have to finish it, girlfriend have a long list of things to around the house. Snow as melt so i need to get over this

So i put oil in the engine hoping to try starting it to find out i got a dead battery after 10 second of cranking. Battery on charger but it would likely need a new battery since i have this one for 5 years and i with all the winch time it will be a good thing.

So charger on, i hope i'll be able to fire it up this afternoon.

Yes engine just started on lunch time, i was starting getting nervous about the timing chain that i might skip a theet. I think i may have flooded the engine yesterday.

But now i only have around 40-45 psi of pressure, it jump at 60 when i hit the gaz pedal. Maybe the pretolium gelly that put the pressure down. Before the tear down i was getting 50-55 psi when cold that's why i'm concern.

Still need to finish the assembly of the front before bringing the engine to normal operating temperature.

Jeep is assigned to the garage for 1-2 month. My front cover is shot and not producing enought pressure way below the 10 psi/1000 rpm.

Pump has very bad scraches in the cavity wall along the bottom of it.

Good news is that i finaly get in contact with Matt from bulltear. So i pull the trigger on a Nickel cover. Everywhere i read is always coming back to their product so i'll paid the extra buck but i will have a real good sollution.

But i will have to wait about 2 month for getting it.....

They will give you $200 if you take it. Would have to think about that. Kidding... sort of. What will you do with it?

200$ for the body if i want it.

It's a cj6....been thinking about bringing my 5's to a 6's since i know cj6 exist ahah. With a 15 month little girl and another baby coming in september it make the Cj5 lenght less desirable for family ride. My cj5 is built more for off-road than road and i want to bring the 6's more for road than off-road. I'm planning to lowering the suspension of 2" and put some 33" tire instead of the 35-36" i run by now. Also i have an th400/dana20 combo ready to bolt on my 360...gf will be able to drive it.

I still dont know how damage is that cj6 body but at that price i dont risk very much. I've been searching for 5-6 years a body without finding any. I have a fiberglass cj5 body by now, so it will be more difficult to stretch this body.

^^^^ what Tarry said. You could build a new chassis and make all kinds of improvements...

Chassis is hand built on my cj5...look at 2013 post. I will just need to make it longer when i'll do the 6's.

As for improve, it will put an automatic in it. I'm keeping the coil spring suspension.

Also i want to lower the suspension around 2".
