I assume since in 40 years I have never seen a 3 5/8" tach that its actually a 3 3/8" tach (you measure the body not the face) so the VDO is the cheapest new option.

I used a 51258 wix oil filter, cut the mounting end open and stuck the tach in. A couple of slots in the side for a hose clamp to clamp it on the column. I’ll see if I can find a picture.

How did you cut the center out of the oil filter with out damaging the lip on the outside edge?

How did you secure the tac inside the filter housing?

I cut the center of the filter out with a cut off wheel in Christine my muffler cutter, pulled the rubber out and cut in the groove.Fyi the base of a wix filter is stupid thick.A bead of black window silicone(automotive type) around the edge and slid the tach in,i used led bulbs so i hope i dont have to pull it apart for lighting.

I used a ACDelco PF24 and the base on it was unreal. I used foam rubber pad that is almost 1/8 thick and its a snug fit. After I get this one mounted I might try and find a vintage oil filter and mount it in that to kinda fit the age of the jeep.
