I bought a basket case 67 cj5 a couple months ago, and while searching for a new tub stumbled across a 66 cj5. The story is it was an air force jeep that then went to the local fire department, at some point it spun a rod bearing and they left it sit. The guys kid bought it, pulled the motor to rebuild it and there it sat. Its solid as a rock with no rust and about as unmolested as they come. The plan is for a full stock restoration. If anyone needs pics let me know.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Nice. Are you going back original blue? Could you take a close up of the dash data plate?

I will take some tomorrow, its going to be the original strata blue and I'm going to keep it original with the shackles, data plates, stickers ect. I have been collecting pictures of the few I can find, it seems the military added lift shackles and bumperetts to all of them.

Heres pics of the stickers and plates.

So far I havent found any rust or filler, I think the motor went in 95 and it has been inside since then, I'm waiting for the next surprise though.

Wow, looks nice. I thought I saw a 4 spd from the dash plaque, but the trans cover plate shows 3 Spd. I forgot the military put a "universal" shift pattern plate in their trucks. Lucky find with no real rust!

Is that a '55 Chev 150 in the background?
No, I haven't seen that data plate reproduced yet. There have to be surplus ones somewhere.

I've only seen yours and mine - no reproductions.

Looks like it, those pics are when i bought it at the P.O. shop. He does muscle car restoriaton, the jeep was his sons. After it sat with the motor out for 15 years he had enough and decided to sell it.

Well two weeks in, I have the body stripped and a cart built to roll it around. Now I'm working on getting the chassis stripped. I hope to have every ready to sandblast in the next couple of weeks.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I havent posted any updates in a while, my computer crashed and Io have been working on the jeep instead. Had to machine some puller legs to get the parking brake drum off.

Got the frame notched out for the dual reservoir master, it will be one of the few modifications on my build but one out of safety.

Got the frame stripped, the undercoating off, and drilled the spot welds for the reinforcement plates. I plan to blast them separate paint them, and gule them back in with panel adhesive.

Got the motor off to the machine shop 2 weeks ago, waiting to see how it is, I got it in pieces so its a waiting game right now, I got all the small holes in the body welded up, they must have been 40 or so from screws and random stuff being attached over the years. Then I flipped the tub over on my cart and I spent the last 2 weeks alternating between degreasing parts and scraping undercoating but I finally have the tub and frame done, just a fender left to go.
