Flasher That Works With Led Bulbs?

I'm trying to find a flasher that will work with LED bulbs on my '67, which has a (repro) stock wiring harness from Walcks'
that was recently installed. I bought these LED bulbs from Super Bright LEDs (two red and two amber):

They work great in brake and parking light modes, so I know the polarity is correct, but they will not work in turn signal mode.

The currently installed Novita flasher is electronic, and works fine with incandescent bulbs. It's supposed to work with LEDs bulbs as well, but in this case it doesn't. Has anyone found a flasher that works well with LEDs?

 

They might not draw enough load to make it flash, I think they make resistors or some kind of chip to add, can't remember what exactly.

 

This is the one I am using for both turn signals and the 4 way. Works well.

Look around on the web. Years ago I found information on modifing a two pole flasher. All you are doing is cutting a tracer on the circuit board with a razor blade. It is the one that sences a burned out bulb. I did it for my TJ and it worked great. However it has been so long I could not tell you where to cut.

 

This Brit site specializes in LED lighting pieces for vintage vehicles. Informative, too. "Earth" = ground. Try not to get bothered by their christmas-y text colors.

I got mine from summit racing since i was ordering other thing from them anyway. I have stock incandescent front signals and led tail lights and it works fine.

 

One thing to watch is that an LED flasher has a plus and a minus side. Regular flashers it doesn't matter. If you get an LED flasher it should have a pair of jumper wires from flasher to fuse block or flasher stock location. If you install one and it won't flash try the jumpers to the opposite prongs. Works great.

 

That endorsement sounds good enough to me.

What's the stock number and description of the one you bought? Got a link?

 

Wherever you buy from, before you purchase one, check and make sure whether your flasher has two pins or three.

It turned out that mine had three. I bought this flasher, which has three pins plus a ground wire:

Evidently the ground wire is necessary due to the LED bulbs I used not creating sufficient load to operate a flasher that's ungrounded. It works fine, although for some reason the light in the Sparton turn signal switch housing flashes once after the turn signal lever has returned to center.

 

You need a ground wire because the new flasher has a timer circuit that opens and closes a transistor to flash the lights. This makes the flashing speed independent of the load, and the timer works with any kind of bulb. If you tried to use the lights connection as a ground, the timer circuit would lose its ground when the lights turn off and never turn on again. The old mechanical flasher has a bimetal strip that heats and cools from the current through it to make and break contact - no ground required.

I am using regular bulbs, but want to hook up led dash indicator lights. Is there a best way to wire? Can i just splice into the line or do they need another prong or seperate flasher.

i remember in regular more modern cars the indicator light flashes opposite than the body lights. Hmmmmm...Clearly not an electrician here.

Doing this LED bulb upgrade. Having some problems.

When I have a LED bulb in the rear lights and a regular bulb in the front, the lights will blink with a regular flasher.

When I install a LED bulb in the front, the lights do not flash. I installed a LED flasher and still no flashing lights. The wire coming out of the flasher is that a ground or power supply wire?

I have a NOS Sparton turn signal, new. The flasher is a three prong type, the one I purchased matches the plug.

I have not hooked up the emergency flasher yet.

 

Not sure which flasher unit you purchased but the wire is probably a ground. Mine is set up that way.

 

One wire should be a ground. If hooking up the ground wire still doesn't work switch the two other wires around.

 

My flasher has 3 prongs on it

One is a red wire which is fused, that power in
There is a white wire that hooks to the white wire coming out of the signal harness
Then there is a black wire that comes out of the signal harness
