I used the Spencer trailer and hauled leaves for the third weekend. It was alot of work but fun at the same time using the jeep.

I was inspired by member Rich M. who installed a support bearing for his steering shaft. I installed one myself by welding a support plate to the frame and shock tower which allowed the support bearing to intersect with the steering shaft through a opening in the inner fender. My steering shaft is not straight to the gear box, I have a dog leg angle in it to clear the exhaust manifold with hot rod style U-joints on each end. My steering seems slightly tighter now since the bearing install.

Something pretty simple but maybe overlooked by people returning their old Jeeps to stock. I was messing with a bunch of details yesterday one of them being adjusting the toe in on the front end when I noticed that the steering stops were out quiet a ways. Turning the wheel lock to lock there was a big gap between the front of the tire and the leaf spring. This made sense because I knew in the past the jeep was lifted and had really large tires on it that needed more clearance. I backed off on the stops until there was about 5/8'' clearance at full lock. I took it for a drive, nothing rubbed and the difference in the turning radius was very noticeable. This might be something for members to take a look at if your'e running stock wheels and tires.

Be careful- those are there for more than keeping the tires rubbing. There's three kinds of front axles out there- Rzeeppa, bendix & Spicer, each has a different minimum turning radius & exceeding it can result in broken axles.

It wasn't a radical angle change but that's interesting! Where would I find the adjustment specs?

    I think it's:
    Rzeppa 29°
    Spicer 27°
    Bendix. 23°

But it's best at this point to wait for Oldtime to check in because he knows for sure. (y)
