OK fellas, I'm getting the old jeep cleaned up and ready to sell. I had the carb rebuilt last year which solved one idle problem but must have sorta created another. I'll try to describe this best I can.

This is my 84 CJ7 with 258 I6 engine and a weber 38 mm 2 barrel carb (rebuilt good last year). It has an electric choke.

When you start the jeep up it idles pretty high, until you give the accelerator a pat, then it will idle back down around 700 RPMs like it's supposed to. I think this function is pretty normal for a cold engine, but I've always thought that after the engine warms up this isn't supposed to happen.

My problem is that at every stop sign, or red light when I shift into neutral to wait for the light to change it's still idling high. I have to pat the accelerator every time in order to get it to idle back down.

I would pretend that I'm a mechanic and say this was something with the fast idle cam but...I am NOT a mechanic. Learned a few big words on the internet.

Any idea what would cause this and how to fix it?

Check that the choke opens fully when it warms up It may need an adjustment

That was kinda my first thought, but...it only takes a single pat of the accelerator to get it to idle back down, but then....at the next red light when I stop and shift into neutral it's back stuck at high idle again. Have to pat the pedal with every stop. Of course when you're just coasting, this has the throttle accelerated the same amount.

Right but if the choke is just this side of open it will let the fast idle cam swing into the spot for fast idle
