I have no books on the FSJ's
What specific Jeep models and vintages had the Dana 20 with the integral parking brake assemblies ?

So then no Dana 20 park brake after 1971 ?
I wonder then if that park brake goes al the way back to the 1962 Gladiator truck ?
That would be interesting because 1962 was the very first year for the D20.
    HMMM ???

The parts manual doesn't get specific about which Jeep model.
For the full size Jeep models the manual just lists "all" with 230 232 327 350 engines.
No late model AMC engines listed, 304, 360 etc.

    Thanks Jim,
So if it was with 230 Tornado engine then it surely begins with Dana 20 equipped Jeeps in 1962.
I think its pretty definite then that it went with all Dana 20 equipped Jeeps from 1962 and prior to the 1972 AMC engines.
D20 Jeeps would be the Gladiators, Wagoneers and Commando's.

I've seen a few D-20 / with park brake that were originally mated to a T98.
I expect that setup must be from a Gladiaror truck.
I rather doubt that Commando's and Wagoneers ever used the 4 speed.
Maybe a few Wagoneers had T98/18's but certainly not the Commando...
    Just Thinking ........

By the way Jeep T18 on various Jeeps generally begins in 1968. and prior units were T98.
This change-over from T98 to T18 excludes the CJ's retaining the standard F-134 engines.
1968 (final year) M715 also retained the T98.

This thread needs pictures. I haven't been around a lot of FSJs. I've never seen a parking brake on a D20. Google image search only shows custom units.

Was it the same drum-style as the CJs? Or a band-clamp design?

If drum, how much clearance was above it to the floor? That had to prodrude above the height of the t-case, right?

Basically identical to D-18 parking brake.
I believe the only difference is the special (early style) Dana 20 rear output bearing cap.

Yes the tunnel height must increase in order to fit it to universal jeeps.
I plan to mount this brake system in a flat fender jeep so a continuation of this topic was posted here:

So Jim what do the FSJ books say about these two parts ?

These are two D18 parts that I'm hoping are identical with D20 system.
    912105 Companion Flange
    915892 Operating Lever

Also do you have the part number for that early D20 rear output casting ?

Yeah I saw that one myself.
I would be interested if it was a T18 mated to that park brake equipped D20.

There are two different flanges listed with no more info than what I'm showing.
912105 is listed as being 2.125" long.
940407 is listed as being 2.594" long.
Both have the same part description: Flange, Transfer Case Parking Companion

There is only one operating lever listed and that number is the same as yours above.

Not surprisingly, the books only list the one rear output housing (same as D18) 992082.
That number supersedes the early number 933725.

Parts book confusion ? Certainly there has to be two different rear output housings with or without the drum style parking brake ????

    That was great Jim,
I was able to figure it all out with your help and some additional info in the February 1973 Universal Part Catalog (UPC)

So hears what I figured. Dana 18 used the same identical rear bearing cap ( #A-9330) from 1942 through 1971.
The proper companion flange for a Dana 18 is # 912105.

So # 940407 companion flange must be exclusive to the Dana 20 with a park brake assembly.
The Dana 20 rear bearing cap (without park brake) is # 933725
The Dana 20 rear bearing cap (with park brake) is # 992082

So the only 2 parts different than a typical Dana 18 park brake system are the rear bearing cap and the companion flange.

Well.....don't close the book just yet.
I got into an older FSJ parts manual and found this:
933724 Cap and bushing for use with T/case mounted parking brake.
Maybe an earlier number that changed into the one above in your post ?

Well then obviously the early Parts Lists and the later Parts Catalogues are not in agreement.
Regardless we do know that the D20 with park brake must have a special rear bearing cap to accept the backing plate and also the lever.

This one seen on Ebay claims virtually all the part numbers but certainly is not going to do it.

Dana 18's used 2 different rear output housings. One for the early (military) band brake and a different one for the inside shoe style brake. There are two different companion flanges as you noted. The length is different and the ones I have had had a slightly different bolt pattern for the drum and driveline. I found out the hard way.
The rear output housing for the 20 with drum brake has a flange for the backing plate cast and machines into it like you would see on an 18.

I have one in my possession but apparently my picture is too large. I will try and resize it at some point and post it up. It's common for these to have the pivot stud broken out of the housing just like on 18's.

Here's the housing from the 20 transfer case with the park brake mount built in. You can see where the pivot stud has broken out the housing and the stud is missing. Very common on these. I kept this one because I use them for a different application. These are getting hard to find, especially intact.
