last time I had the head off a few weeks ago pistons and cyl walls looked good no edges either. only internal eng part I've replaced was the number 4 exhaust valve. I got a Omix valve before I new there stuff was........ ordered sealed power valves this time. New valves springs and guides. If I can get number 4 up I'll be happy. As for the oil leak down I'll look at it but I'm going to follow Pete L's advice for now.

Your Honor, the witness has been witholding information!

NOW you tell us the low cylinder is the one you on which you replaced a valve???

Did you lap it in? Have you tried (re)checking the valve clearance?

Lapping a used valve and seat that has been in service for a period of time is near useless.............Grind the valves and seats.......put the issue to bed.

I only lapped valve seat, new valve then, I plan on replacing all valve guides and valves and springs. Seat replacement needs to wait. I'd do it myself but pricing the tools it's not worth buying some. I called the one machine shop around they don't do in jeep machining.

It sounded to me as if you'd replaced the valve "a few weeks ago" when you said you'd had the head off.
    I wouldn't lap it now.

SeaFoam in the oil treatment? Or maybe some #1 Diesel fuel run through the oiling system to help clean out clogs?
Or Marvel's Mystery Oil, maybe. (but I personnally have never used MMO, so cannot attest to it. And the Diesel fuel thing is something I remember reading about for flushing oil systems. )

IMG_0429.JPG Oil level is still good! Looks like that's fixed. Exhaust valve is burned on number 4 check exhaust valves on the other 3 seem real loose in guides pulled all 4.

Although your pictures are kinda of bad.............I don't see any thing that resembles a seat around that valve face...........which pretty much says they were leaking.

And to properly measure the guides , you need a set of small bore gauges........................... I think that block and head needs to go see a machinist.......

Lol it may yet, tell then I'm learning, it does have valve seats my pictures are not to great, need to get a new pic post site. Is there any thing I should look for with a bore gauge? They seem to vary a lot with price. I'm trying to learn as much as I can with out going crazy. I measured piston bore measured 3.15 all this makes me think engine has never been apart? But who knows. I'm having fun at least.

Standard is 3.125, yours measures 3.15...third digit? Piston tops don't have any number stamped in them?
