I think that mount is supposed to work in conjunction with a pair of right angle brackets hanging off the inside of the frame on both sides with a large donut cushion between the two brackets...
And yes Passenger's side drops on narrow front axles can be very tight getting around that tranny...... Clocking that TC up may help if you have the room between the center line and frame .....although it will add to the compound angle of the driveshaft getting back to your front yoke.............Not impossible just have to play with the pieces or if you're dead set on the auto......look into doing a drivers side drop.

This kit has the other brackets but these wings coming off the block have long oval holes that won't line up with the angles that mount inside the frame. These engine brackets are almost as wide as the outside of the frame. Hadn't thought about a driver's side drop at all. My wallet is probably grateful for that.

Too Long or too Short?..........Although if you decide to use that combination you would first want to get the motor centered at the proper height and rake angle and then look at whatever obstacles may be present.....

The engine brackets are too long. You can see them in the pictures. It puts a portion of the holes over the frame rail. It is possible that they would be mounted high enough to where they were above the frame anyway, but with the holes over the frame rail the angle bracket inside the frame can't use them.
Regarding rake angle, I am thinking that making the transmission pan level will establish my rake. Is that a reasonable thought?

Yes , I see them , but nothing saying you couldn't put the rubber puck right on top of the frame rail , between it and that bracket coming off the motor.........of course you would want to box that section of rail both sides and then trim the end a little for looks...........the bolt looks like it would clear to the inside......so perhaps a round plate the size of the rubber puck on top of the frame rail with a hole in the middle , hanging off the frame rail enough to clear for the bolt inside and then two gussets on the edge of the plate that's hanging over back to the frame rail..................looks doable from here.........of course again the elevation of the motor has to be known before that happens.......................... and Yes set the Tranny pan at ZERO bubble to the floor and that will be about 3-5 degrees...at the manifold.

I think I was wrong about these brackets. It is hard to explain without pictures, which I can't take until I dismantle it again, but basically, the channels that mount to the engine block have two oval slots cut in them. One of the slots has a bolt that passes through a rubber donut, the angle bracket which gets mounted to the inside of the frame, and then another rubber donut. The other slot gets a fat, stubby carriage bolt in it. There is a plate that has two holes bored in it that rides inside the channel, over the slots. The carriage bolt passes through one hole, and the bolt that goes through the donuts passes through the other hole. The width of your frame determines whether the motor mount bolt uses the inside or outside holes. For my frame it uses the inside holes with the channel extending over the frame. I was able to use one of the original holes through the frame rail to pass a bolt into one of two holes in the angle bracket to temporarily bolt the angle to my frame. As it turns out it is very close to where I want the engine to sit. The slots in the channel allow me to slide the engine over to the drivers side about 3/4 of an inch offset which could be a major help in getting the front driveshaft further away from the transmission pan.
Driver's side bracket... I had to grind a little clearance into the channel to avoid contact with the exhaust manifold. I will need to remove a little more on this side and a bit on the other side too. I am still not sure if I will be able to use either manifold until I hang the tub over everything to see what the firewall clearance (or lack of) looks like.

Overall stance...the transfer case still needs to come down a hair but I won't mess with the level until I get the back tires out of the dollies.

OK , looks like Ya got it somewhat figured out.......Lookin at that overlength of that complete motor , tranny & TC , there are adapters out there to shorten that up from the back of the tranny to the tailshaft..

Yep. They call them Slip Yoke Eliminators or SYE's. I plan on getting one after I do some more research on differences between what is offered. From what I have seen they would back it up to where the yoke would be mounted about where the orange strap is now.

I may still need to shorten those channels. They only have about a quarter of an inch of space between them and the frame and I haven't torqued the mounting bolt down.

The sun came out and I had to do things around here that weren't Jeep related. Nevertheless, I had been messing around with my "no name" 15x8 rims since I now think I am going to lift the Jeep to help the front driveshaft clearance even a little. Awhile ago I bought some baby moons that would work with the 15x8's. The only picture I can find is this earlier one from this thread (the wheel on the right).[IMG]

Not long ago I bought a couple of hubcap inserts off of ebay. They looked like this when I bought them.
Then I took my baby moons down to the machine shop and had them cut a hole to clear the insert. I already checked and found that the diameter of the insert would also clear my front hubs. They came back looking like this.
I had to trim the inserts down a bit to get them to sit more flush. None of my tin snips wanted to cut the inset without bending them so I used some old, steel, household scissors.
The inside edges of the hole are a bit raw. I may polish them a bit later. I popped them on my rattle can white rims to see how they would look. I intend to paint the rims the off white color that was stock on intermediate Jeep rims. To give you an idea of how they look, the front...

It has been awhile since I updated. Not much progress unless you count spending money and changing plans. One of the first changes came about because I wouldn't stay away from Craigslist. I ended up buying a pair of 33x12.5x15 Coopers that were like new, and about two years old. Got them cheap and decided to run 33's on the CJ6. Then I started checking into lift kits to run the 33's. After reading many posts on here I decided to go with the Rocky Road YJ spring conversion (thanks Zila). Spent just over 1600 on that and then brought my 15x8's down to the tire store to get the old tires removed so that I could get them blasted and then paint them. While I was there I learned that Cooper doesn't make the same 33's that I bought anymore so now I plan to buy four new ones and run one of the used pair as a spare. After considering the size of the new tires, I now plan to swap the disc brakes from a 79 Dana 30 onto mine. As of tonight the only progress I have made is pulling the axles and springs off the frame again (one step forward...two steps back). The rims are at the sandblaster and I am waiting on parts from Rocky Road Outfitters. Oh, I also changed my mind on the whole Chevy engine idea so I pulled that out of the frame and will be running the 304/T19/D300.

You have a 79 Dana 30 axle or you are just going to buy the brakes?

I have a 79 CJ5 out here that is partially torn apart and a DMV nightmare. I am planning on swapping everything over from the knuckles out unless I find another donor front end so that I don't have to mess with the 79. Thanks for the SYE link but now I am going to run the manual transmission (unless I change my mind again).

If you end up with an empty D30 housing or one without brakes and you want to sell it let me know. I'm not bonding with the looks of my wide track D30.

Will do. Waiting on a word from a guy with a 30. If I get it I will have a spare housing.

Got my rims back from the sand blaster and painted them yesterday. I am pretty good at making runs and catching small flying insects with tacky paint.
They are good enough for me to move forward with. I was scared to paint them black so I went with an off white. Going to run the custom dog dish caps I made and am actually considering some beauty rings. Couldn't find many pictures of jeeps with dogs and beauty rings. I am curious if it will look good or weird.

Not a lot of progress. Seems like much of what I want to do is waiting on the suspension parts to get here. I don't want to start messing with steering or bumper options until the new spring hangars are in place. Same goes for mounting the engine and trans. I did get my tires back. Quite a change over the direction I was going to go.

I have been keeping my youngest Daughter (away at college) up to date on what I am doing with the 6. She texted me a photo that she found on the web of what she thought was the perfect looking CJ6. It was a picture of Rejeep's rig with the new hardtop installed. I laughed when I had to tell her that he was the gent that I bought the exhaust for ours from. Small world. She does have a good eye though.
