I agree, it's not worth 10k, but for 6 or 7 it would be somthing to think about. Those new kubotas like you're looking at are sweet, a friend of ours down in MD has one. It's a great small agile machine, just has limitations as all small machines do, in your case it seems a strong 4x4 would be best. our big backhoe is only 2wd, never had it stuck though, and you can usually use the hoe to push yourself if you ever do get stuck.

We have a Mahindra 2810. It is a 2003 model and has been superb. Dry weight is about 3400lbs, has a 1.3l diesel rated @ 28hp. Lifts 16 foot telephone poles easily with the front bucket. Pulls a 72in finishing mower quite well. We also use a 56in tiller and a 60in 16 disc harrow. Rear lift capacity is about 2500 lbs and the front is around 1200. I long to buy a back hoe attachment. I can lift the back end of a Toyota Camry and move it around pretty easily (don't ask, just don't be a drunk and "accidentally park" your car in my driveway). Have about 1200 hours on it and beside air filters and batteries, only other thing we have had to replace are battery cables. My neighbor across the street had a 38hp couple year old John Deere (one of the turbo diesel tier 3 units) and he still ends up calling for help occasionally due to his not weighing enough or having as solid a front bucket. We run turf tires as we now a lot of yard with it. Unless you are slogging through tilled soil constantly or running through damp forests, now need for R4 tires in my opinion. In all my years, I have only ever needed help getting unstuck once (when 4wd and a locked rear end didn't get the job done). Even then it only took a slight tug from a 500 cc 4 wheeler to bump me out of the ruts I had dug myself into. Didn't help I was too reluctant to hop down in the sludge and undo the 10ft tree I had strapped to the back... I'll echo what others have said, I would get the one that weighs the most in the class if size you want to buy. Makes a huge difference in how it puts down the power.

And I can fit it on a 16ft trailer with my mower deck and the tiller and get down to the deer lease, all while towing behind a mid size pickup...

Don't forget to look at the Case IH models, great little tractors.

    Pulled the trigger last week.

Thought about it quite a bit, and this is really towards the sweet spot for me in terms of size. Easy to store and transport, and reasonable for my wife to use around the (future) barn, but not too small to do some of bigger jobs I have planned. I did a little test to digging back in the woods, and it's got good power for the type of soil we have around here.
And for being about 10 or 12 years old it pretty much looks like brand new. Only 322 hours

That is a good tractor... (y)

You'll be amazed at what it can do and how you lived without it... :D

We've still got a '79 or so Kubota B245DT up in N Carolina. The hour meter quit yaers ago at around 3000 hours, and all the sheet metal has rusted off it, but it will still start right up and work hard. Most of its life was spent turning a 60" bush hog, but it also dug miles of trench with a 3 pt backhoe.
I need to drag it down here to Florida to put it to work again.

I would enjoy seeing pictures of this tractor. Unlikely I'll ever own enough land to make one worthwhile, but it would be interesting to see after all the discussion.

Hmm, I though I included a pic above.

    Did this one work?

Either way, I'll be sure to get some more shots of it in action soon. i'm starting a tree-house project for my kids tomorrow that will require some light excavation. (That will make sense when I post pics of the job)
