Where is the best spot to bang on the head to get it to seperate from the block? I have it all apart, just have to pop the head off. It looks like this motor may have had the head off before since the corners of the block looks like they have had a few chisel hits to them and chipped the corners .

I'd probably stick a 2x4 against the front but side of the head and tap the wood

    Try the old rope-in-the-cylinder trick?

I got it almost off. i have one stubborn stud that is not letting the head slide over it. I am soaking it more now, hopefully it will be free enough tomorrow to get the head off

Hey, thats a pretty good idea.
Maybe you could put a cup of water in there and use the starter to spin the engine over. might be every exciting!(y)

    No, please don't do that.

Filling the cylinder with gun powder would be faster.:D

At least for a second, I bet it would give you an immense feeling of gratification.

It would give new meaning to "detonation".

I've used this trick several times over the years. Never fails! I learned it on this forum!

If it's hung on one stud, put the nuts back on the other studs around the same cylinder and back them off about 1/8". That way the head won't lift at an angle and bend the stud. Apply pressure and back the nuts off evenly until it's free.
