Thought this deserved photo preservation. A '44 GPW with custom top/body work-- said to be made from two Dodge pickups.

Seems there was a fad in the 50s to put pickup cabs on Jeeps. I think there was a Mechanix Illustrated or Popular Mechanics article back then that showed how to do it. I've never seen one of these in person, but I've seen pictures of at least a half-dozen different Jeeps done this way.

    A few more examples ...
    1946 CJ-2A/Ford/Studebaker Omak, WA $2500
Year? CJ-3A El Paso, TX $1800
    1953 CJ-3B Golden, CO $2700

Looks like a pregnant Volkswagen. I always wanted to use that phrase. My Dad used it a lot.

I have this top and I am trying to find out what it is. Fiberglass roof but very heavy steel. Anyone know the manufacturer.

Here's another one for the record... I still can't find out exactly what it is. It's aluminum and held together with hundreds and hundreds of machine screws and nylocks.

Nope, that is a TJ Unlimited with a custom made Overlander/World Cab like top. Note the rear bumper and TJ steps. That guy makes some cool, very cool one off fiberglass molds, then sells the molds to others that will market and sell them retail.

Well, there is definitely confusion as to what the two CUSTOM jeeps are which are pictured in post #26. Again, be sure to note there are two jeeps and not three. The LJ is a custom--The grille is a factory grille from an '83 CJ-7; the fenders, hood and cowl panel are custom fiberglass designed to integrate the CJ grille with the TJ/LJ body lines.

The Scrambler (incorrectly said to be a CJ7) originating from post #5 is custom as well. See post #25 for more info.

Now, my info. is not first-hand knowledge--so I may just be adding confusion:)

Don't remember seeing this one in our list. And I like this one. Looks futuristic. Especially for the time.
