When the clutch is pressed in, it starts to grind or vibrate. Not all the time and not immediately. And not every time. Why?

    New clutch/throwout bearings etc.

Also...seems to only be when im in nuetral or between shifts. If im in the driveway and I just have it in 2nd gear and press the clutch in there is nothing. No grinding, no noise. I can partially put the clutch in. No noise, shifts fine..

My first suspicion would be the throw-out bearing. But your second post makes me curious. Possibly a transmission bearing?

It sound like your clutch is out of adjustment. Does it grind and vibrate when the pedal is fully depressed, or even part way depressed?
Your linkage could be adjusted allowing too much travel, making the throwout arm rub the rotating clutch pressure plate rather than the throwout bearing.

How does a novice check adjustment?? I dont know how that works. Yes, it grinds and vibrates when the clutch is pressed in. There seems to be a sweet spot between fully depressed and partially depressed where it doesnt grind. Drove around town about an hour. Problem got worse.

Petel, disregard second posting. It happens all the time now.

The google says my transmission needs to be pulled to get at the throw out bearing. And just today i insured it through october for fall trail rides.:cry::mad::cry:

Which adjuster system does the F-134 use in the '70 model?

Throw out bearing. Do the clutch at the same time.

A weekend job if you don't have any secondary complications.

All the more reason to be suspicious, regrettably.

can somebody with experience tell if its a clutch a simple clutch adjustment before I drop the transmission? I was going to have an experienced mechanic come over this weekend for a look-see.

and if its all new, wtf would it all go out right away? modern manufacturing that terrible?

on a side note, I went to you tube to see if they had clutch adjustment videos, and just started clicking and that led to other videos, then spent a half hour watching a guy in a 750hp willys race vettes, a porcshe, a superbike etc. think it was LSx willys vs corvette or something. it was NUTS!

Generally with clutch pedal adjustment the only thing you look for is the pedal free play before engaging the throwout bearing. You should be able to push down on the pedal around 3/4 inch to 1 inch before resistance is felt. That is of course assuming all of the linkage is good and tight as in not sloppy and of course is stock linkage.

Are you saying now that there is noise all through the clutch pedal range? Can you check your adjustment and make sure the linkage is all good and then post a good picture of the linkage?

Are the floorboards in? After clutch and throwout bearing replacement, I was driving around with floorboards out and was alarmed at the noise until I put floorboards in. Adjustment of the linkage is pretty simple. Follow FSM.

When the pedal is left alone there is about a inch and a half play in the cable that goes into the bellhousing. I can move my adjuster back about a half of an inch 20160916_151852.jpg

Are you saying the 1 and 1/2 inch is slop, or loose movement? If you reach in and put your hand on the pedal how far does it push down without resistance?

Moved adjustment nut forward about 1/8". When i started it up to drive it on the ramps, there was no clutch issue. It was like there isnt anything wrong. After i moved the nut fwd, i turned the cable back in to tighten it. 20160916_155501.jpg

By doing that you change the throwout bearing free play.
